Well, I got myself an Athlon 2600XP 333MHZ FSB, an Asus A7V333 and 512MB of PC2700 RAM from ebuyer.

Turned out the board they supplied is a revision 1.0, plus it didn't have the RAID sockets I paid extra for! Ho hum.

So they're getting it back. Trouble is, this leaves me in limbo regarding sourcing a mobo.

Ebuyer tell me they cannot guarantee the revision number on the boards they ship out (!!!!?).

So, I have two options.

Trade down to a slower processor (2400), or get a different mobo and forget about using the Voodoo with a more modern CPU/Mobo combination.

Anyone got any better ideas? ???

Hmmm, are you saying there's a bios which will bring my board upto spec?

I had a look on the Asus website, their info suggested version 2.0 upwards for my processor.

Can you furnish me with a little more information, please.

Ebuyer cannot guarantee me a FSB333 board, even in exchange.

These were S/H boards, and they don't supply it new, from what I can gather.

I see what falconfly means. i run my 5500agp in a EP8kha+  that i bought over 2 years ago, with the new bios im runnin a barton 2500 333fsb with the 512ca with np at all, i even have the barton o/c to 2800xp, so dont give up, there are mobo's out there that will work, good luck 

do the A7v333 really have an AGP 3,3V compatible slot?

and it states there's an AGP Pro 4X slot, which supports 1.5V cards only  ???

Well, after all that,, the Asus board went back.

I've decided to go with a later Nforce board- MSI K7N2, which is very nice, but of course incompatible with my Voodoo 5500.

I will use the Voodoo 5 with my old Pentium II system for the time being, a friend is poosibly coming up with a good spec Pentium III rig that will serve that card fine!

FOr the Athlon machine, I have a CLabs SLI Voodoo 2 set, for which I am currently making a full custom water cooling rig- 6 copper water blocks in all- wheeee!

Will post photos of the rig when I finish it. Will also be watercooling the Athlon XP 2600 processor and GPU on my Geforce 2 Titanium card.

So that's 8 water blocks in all- my computer will look like a plumbers nightmare! lol

Overkill?

Voodoo 2 cards have always got a bit too hot for my liking, and I'm sure they've been the cause of more than the odd 'hang' when playing Red Baron 3D (the only reason I have them!).

I am watercooling my entire system in an effort to eliminate all cooling fans, save for the power supply. (which is an Antec Truepower model, still under guarantee).

The whirring of cooling fans drives me up the wall, and with a system upgrade on the agenda, I decided to bite the bullet and build a watercooled rig.

The lack of fans will result in a lack of airflow through the case, which will mean more warm air circulating around those Voodoo 2 cards- not good.

Many folk have upgraded their Voodoo 2 cards with the Tennmax stealth cooler- have you seen the price of those- $21 each plus shipping,  ouch!

I can build my waterblocks for pennies (infact nothing, as I build them from scrap copper) and they don't take long to make either, as I have built homemade press tools for generic GPU and CPU sizes.
Plus water is far more effective at transferring heat away than air (ask any engine designer).

The prices charged for commercial water cooling systems are hideous IMHO, plus they are generally grossly over engineered, probably in an effort to justify the price tags.

Unless you have workshop facilities, then it wouldn't be economic for the average computer user to watercool their Voodoo's. This isn't a problem in my case.

Keeping the cards cool, should ensure a long life.
I really don't fancy bidding for anymore S/H 3DFX cards on ebay, and I'm sure these cards will increase in value as they get more scarce.

I'll be watercooling the Voodoo 5 if the mods are succesful, and I may make ram cooling blocks for that!
