Title: UT 2003 FPS? Post by 3dfx_goblin on 02.03.03 at 22:52:38
I tested ut 2003 on my v5 with an old driver dont remember what - it did good. But then I tested NuAngel 7 and it was, as FalconFly wrote, very fast!
Byt how are your fps in 1024*768*32? I had everything on except for detailed textures (it doesent worked) and character shadows (doesnt work either) - seems that my memory runs out... :o My fps was around 14 - 40... That seems very good because my computer is: Athlon 850mhz 128mb ram Voodoo 5 5500 AGP I AM IMPRESSED ABOUT VOODOO 5! The most weird thing is that the fps almost doesn't change when I changed my resolution from 640*480 to 1024*768! That is ultraweird and I don't understand a shit! |

Oh yes, the Voodoo5 can run UT2003 in 1024x768 :)
I usually run it in 16bit with the 22bit POST Filter. Looks good enough in my Opinion, and conserves some Memory bandwidth. And with only 850Mhz, and (beware) a bare 128MB, your Voodoo5 has alot of unused potential ;) UT2003 runs on low memory very fast, and 256MB are considered really minimum for smooth Gameplay. Mine is running on an AthlonXP 2200+ and 256MB, commonly doing anywhere from 25 to 80 fps (really depends on CPU load I guess). Since your System is 100% CPU and RAM limited, the Voodoo5 doesn't care if it's running 640x480 or 1024x768. You could even tweak the Visual Quality much further : 3dfx Advanced Options : - Video Quality : High - Alpha Blending : Sharper - MipMap LOD Bias : -0.25 - FSAA : you could try 2x/4x FSAA Engine Settings : (found in ut2003.ini , in the Game's \System Directory) look under [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] DetailTexMipBias=0.800000 DefaultTexMipBias=-0.500000 You can increase the Texture MipMap Detail by lowering the number (lower values will result in higher Detail Level) For example, try : -0.75 for DefaultTexMipBias -0.50 for DetailTexBias While this will increase the MultiTexturing workload considerably, the gain in Visual Quality can be really significant ! Play around with the values that give you the best Quality/Performance balance :) |

Then it gets more understanable - I think I should by some more memory too my computer then ;) And I want a Thunderbird 1.4 ghz too but I can not find any! I will do the changes you said... |

sure for that? i own one and the thing runs damn hot! :Pthe heat production is at the same level as on an athlonxp 2200+ or something like that..so make sure your board doesn't supports a palomino or t-bred, then it would be useful. otherwise, by an athlonxp...some models are as cheap as a thunderbird nowadays. @ElvIsAlive: tried 8xFSAA? would be interesting for us guys not owning a voodoo5 6000. :D |

-> goblin
if u need a FSB 100 athlon, the easy way is to pickup a duron 1.3, it's also very cheap ( 30 - 40 euros ), and it seems to be compatible with all socket A motherboards |

the heat problems are easyly taken care of with a aussie Australian Desktop fan blowing air on top of the v6k in the case and cooling the vsa100s to produce better fps
i been playing unreal 2003 now in 1024x769 with 4x fsaa and getting 70 fps in indoor maps and outdoor the fps go down to 30fps anyway of fixing the fps with outdoor maps with unreall tour 2003 and can we use mesa opengl with unreal tour 2003 and get better fps i heard the opengl version is buggy and 10fps slower than the direct x version Regards ELvisALive any unreal tourment 2003 inf tweaks PLEASE POST for 3dfx cards how i get the bloody compressed textures working also if you want a v6k message me and i get you one for $800 Dollors US new and modded with the fixs to produce expcellants results what i call the final v6k card with mods KICK ASS games i play with the v6k max payne 2 chaser -ya man it wortks !! motogp 2 with 8x fsaa and 800x600 and does 40fps plus rollcage 1 and 2 gt racer tdk2000 f12000 descent 3 mech 3 alien vrs pretor 2 forsaken |

With the new mesaFX 0.51b the opengl renderer is not buggy anymore (there are still little things some times)
But it's still slower than D3D, and looks less good. I use these settings in ut2k3 Decals=True Coronas=True DecoLayers=True Projectors=False NoDynamicLights=True ReportDynamicUploads=False TextureDetailInterface=Normal TextureDetailTerrain=Lower TextureDetailWeaponSkin=Lower TextureDetailPlayerSkin=Lower TextureDetailWorld=Lower TextureDetailRenderMap=Lower TextureDetailLightmap=UltraHigh 32bits mode, 32bits textures (16bits looks UGLY in this game, so I prefer "lower" 32bits textures instead of "normal" 16bits textures.) /edit : I just have a 'V5.5K' :P [I just have the demo BTW but Santa Claus will bring me the full version (and an XP2400+ instead of my crap duron 700)] |
