Please tell me,why stick a "NOT FOR RESALE" on a card?

Those stickers were usually put on prototypes and pre-production samples.

Both being somewhat 'inferior' than production samples you wouldn't want a consumer to obtain one of these. (in case the things catches on fire for example, wouldn't want that kind of bad publicity ;))
