Title: List of GLide supported games
Post by BlacK_Out on 19.09.03 at 07:59:10
I am having difficulties with finding what the *full* list of games that support GLide are, I have serached on the 'net and haven't found squat!

Anyone got a full listing? I am looking to make full use this Voodoo 5 I have and I don't remember every game that has support for this API.

So far I know Quake 1,2,3 and Diablo II, as well as Unreal and NFS -- I forgot the rest.

Try this: http://zetafleet.com/dev/oli/compat.php . AFAIK this list ist meant to show wich glide game runs on the openglide wrapper for non 3dfx-cards.

You can also check out this: http://www.3dgamers.com/keywords/?glide=and&submit=SEARCH

Andreas

None of this links is really usefull. The 3dgamers is largely wrong : Renegade is a fully d3d game..., zeta is showing compatibility with wrappers, not true glide games...

Try asking some real voodoo players around this forum. They now very whell the answers...

Boiu_Andrei: thanks for straightening this out.

I am look for a list of GLide supported games, no wrappers, not DirectX or full blown OpenGL.

Just GLide based/supported games. Since GLide is what a voodoo card is all about - ok -- maybe a little Directx and SGI OpenGL -- but (true - non emulated -- using wrappers, 3D analyzer, etc.) GLide is where it's at if you have a voodoo card.

This list is good to a certain degree: but there is no sign of Descent 2/3, NFS2 SE, GTA... This is only a little list of the well known games that also supported glide. And how good they were!

Probably the search for a true list is complicated, and unfortunately none of the lists above give a true figure of what games supported glide.

Maybe the solution to this problem would be to make a new thread and ask eachother what games we played, and filter only those that are surely based on Glide, by using our public knowledge of how to judge if a game is Glide designed for 3dfx, and not D3d, or OpenGL, which all can run on a Voodoo...

Also, there were games designed (to a certain degree for Voodoo), but they were not designed for Glide (remember the Quake1,2, that were using a specially optimized MiniGL to run on a 3dfx card). These games were designed for Voodoo, they worked and looked extremely well, but they were not Glide games. We should make a short special list in which to include these games (Quake1,2,3, and all the games based more or less on their graphic engine) , apart from native Glide games.

I shall add the good old Descent 1 (MS-DOS), which had a 3dfx Patch released for Voodoo1, if I remember correctly :)

Heheheheheheheheeee!  ;D

Well, I should be more specific -- not only what I stated -- no OpenGL, DirectX -- just GLide specific.
+
makes use of the Voodoo 5500 abilities, preferably using Win32 code. ;D

why not trying to make such a list? we can do it like this: everyone who knows glide games can post it into this discussion. to get a better overview someone can put it on his webspace (because i don't know who of you has webspace i can do that)

up to now, i never saw a game which really makes use of the voodoo5 capabilities (cinematic effects etc.)...
any other opinions?

Quake 3 and Serious Sam 1/SE

There's a driver bug in Serious Sam, but I managed to get both AA and DOF to work, well the inteligent AA worked, maybe I just didn't notice the DOF, lol. I forgot the commands to enable intelligent AA and DOF in Serious Sam...

Quake 3 Motion Blur Demo

I believe a while back, x3dfx had it on their gaming servers...

right, ok. but their hasn't been a game yet naturally using these effects...
and, of course, AA isn't an effect that has to be supported by games.

I recently got myself a Celeron 500Mhz for the sole purpose of running my Voodoo5.
These are the GLide games I know of :

Unreal Tournament
Unreal
Sports Car GT
NASCAR Revolution
NFS III *not sure about NFS 4*
Interstate '76 *a bit buggy*
Tomb Raider
Klingon Honour Guard
Thief
Wing Commander Prophecy
F16

a List will be good.
Adieu   ;)

NASCAR Revolution claims to have support for 3dfx but alas it does NOT work  >:(

Yeah, I think a lot of those games are already covered in lists that are hosted all over the web.

AFAIK, the only 3dfx hardware that has shipped lists of Games that are supported by the 3dfx chipsets, is the Maxi Gamer series.

From Maxi Gamer 3D, Maxi Gamer 3D to Maxi Gamer Phoenix, in all of the manuals are 2-3 pages of lists of games that support Glide, D3D, OGL, PowerVR, BRender and more.  How helpful of Guillemot to do this for us!  :)  I think other companies should have followed suit!

Why ?

PC » Celeron 500Mhz, 192MB RAM, Epox EP-3Bxe MotherBoard, VooDoo5 5500 AGP, WIN98se

The game installs perfectly.  When I run the game it asks how I want to run the game, meaning, Direct3D or GLide.  I choose GLide and click OK.  The 3dfx logo appears and then the screen just stays black.  No HDD activity, nothing.  I have to restart the PC.  If I say Direct3D, same thing happens accept for the 3dfx logo.  All my other GLide games runs without problems.  Maybe there is a patch for NASCAR or something.
Thanx for asking
Adieu
