Chip designations and (code)names?
21.10.04 at 14:34:13

Avenger = Voodoo500 = Voodoo 3/Velocity
Napalm = VSA-100 = Voodoo 4/5
Daytona = VSA-101 = Voodoo 4/5 Phase II

What's the deal for the Voodoo Graphics, Voodoo II and Voodoo Banshee?

1) I have never seen Voodoo 3 called "500" anywhere in 3dfx documents, it was always called Avenger or Voodoo 3. Even in some early beta bios it was noted as Avenger.

2) Daytona was Daytona, Napalm was Naplam. There is large changes between the two including memory interface and die size and they are not interchangable.

The Daytona was going to be an inexpensive OEM part.

3) Banshee was Banshee

4) Voodoo Graphics was SST-1

5) Voodoo II was SST-2

6) Rush was SST-96

That page does indeed suck.

The Velocity uses a Voodoo 3 chip.
