ATI's 4800...
30.06.08 at 00:42:06
Haven't been on much since I'm dealing with a custody battle with my ex over my daughter but thought I'd pin this up....
Still a die hard 3DFX fan.... just don't have the money to get what I want for a collectors area as of yet so gratz on the members still around to keep it alive.
Any way, ATI's new 4800 series....

Thanks man. It's going, just taking a lot longer then I was hoping and costing way more then it ever needed to if I was dealing with a decent human being.
If I say much more then that, I'll have to put this is the Twilight Zone area as I have some choice words for what she's doing (even made up some new ones
).
Really appreciate it though.

If I was still Gaming anything, the 4850 would be my first choice as well (despite them having troubles fixing PowerPlay on the series and getting a Win2000 Driver is impossible - I'd have to mod the XP Driver myself)

PowerColor are soon to release a 4850 with 2GB RAM!!!
Just a bit of O.C.-ing and maybe a bigger HSF and you'd be set for the next few years!

AMD's Radeon HD 4600 line of cards
September 10th is when we can expect the budget cards from AMD's HD 4000 series. Can't wait for benchmarks.

one thing about 4850
dont buy 4850 with
reference cooler
, it likes to overheat. Idle temp is already @ 63C and and load temp is about 85C
when playing Crysis @DX10 mode for while I can see graphics errors(lots of little dots).
Well it wont over heat if you manually turn fan speed up, but it is freakin loud. 40% of maximum speed is definitely the MAX.
I have these settings
fanspeed 25% @ Idle, 35-40% @ gaming
btw. the cooler has a warning sticker about the heat (it burns your finger if you touch copper parts
)
Good card though, I'll recommend to buy Club3D's model of 4850, it doesn't have the reference cooler
