Does anybody know's a program to adjust the resolutions on a Voodoo³ except the expensive Powerstrip (the screen adjust option is the only option in that program which is not available in 3dfx tools/v_control)? I have an old monitor and the 800x600 is too much left and the 1024x768 is to much righ (a bit offscreen so you can't read the minutes of the clock). I found some registry entries that look like modelines here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Display\0000\TIMINGS but changing the two parameters that look like the ones that change the horizontal offset have no effect.

My Monitor is officially not a PC Monitor. It's a NEC Multisync XL. That thing is in no Windows Database from 95 till XP. Not even in the drivers from the NEC site. The Monitor is official a 20' with 19' visual size. At 60HZ 640 and 800 Resolutions are very small (a hand fits the black border on the left). At 75 too much is missing above and under border (you never see a titlebar). And at 85HZ the 640 is absolutly perfect. Also the 800 would fit exactly but it is a bit too much left and the 1024 (only 60HZ is possible due to 48khz but  fits perfect) is a bit too much right.

Strange Monitors require strange setups. When i had the old Trident 9400CXI it also came with a DOS program to adjust text modes and grahic modes (including mode 12 and 13) and vesa modes. With this card i was able to make every resolution fit.

The Monitor has of course the usual 4 potis: H and V Position and H and V Size. Buf if i adjust these potis so that every resolution is completely visible i degrade my 19' to a 17'. The reason why i have to reduce H Size so much is that 800 is too much left and 1024 to much right. At the moment i adjusted H Position so that 800 fits completely to the left border. And so in 1024 i can't see the minutes of the clock, the X for close in maximized windows and half of the scrollbar on the right also only in maximized windows. That's acceptable for the moment. On my Voodoo² i never used the 1024 Resolution and the ATI Drivers had those Adjustments build in.

Call me nuts but these modeline-like registry entries must have something to do with this. I tried my 3K on TV and in the 3DFX Tools are these kinds of adjustments for TV output in the 640 till 800 resolutions. Maybe there is a variable needed to activate the changes that i made to the modeline to work on standard monitor output.

As i've written above in this thread the 75hz modes go completely offscreen. If i adjust V Size so that these modes fit i have 16:9 black bars in fullscreen Text and standard VGA modes. In 60hz the 800 and 640 modes fit but have those big black bars to the left and right. I already used hz-tool to adjust the refreshrates to find the best combination and the only resolution left that makes trouble is the 1024 that is a bit too much right.

It's strange that nearly all cards with tv-out have options to adjust the output on tv but only the ati drivers let you adjust the modes for monitor output. In XFree86 on Linux there was a program called xvidtune which was able to finetune every resolution on all cards.

I'll try that monitor-setup program. At least it should prevent modes higher than 1024 and impossible refreshrates to appear in the display properties.

Adjusting resolutions by this way is only for the hardcore who have old fixed sync or damaged old multisync crt's.

When i've found out what each var is for and in wich steps they have effect i will post again.

Thanks! But in the end i can change the refreshrate with either gtf=1 or 0. But with gtf=1 nearly all resolutions fit (still centered left or right). Well, except the 1152x768. But officially this res is not supported so no wonder...
