Title: Giants - Citizen Kabuto
Post by DenisF on 08.03.04 at 16:33:31
Meh :(

This game is driving me nuts, no matter what i do my FPS won't go over 15, i have the details (textures distance etc etc) set at the lowest possible, 640*480*16bit and it still runs at 9~15fps.

Then i pump it up to 1024*768*32bit*2xFSAA and highest details, STILL 9~15fps :'(

I remember when i was on win98se and my trusty V3 i had about 30~50 constant fps (probably due to the geometry assist in the 98 drivers) but now i have a v4 and i get this :( bah

Is there anything in the world i can do to *fix* this? (winXP)

BTW
9~15fps means that i get 9fps with the stock 166mhz, and 15fps at 210mhz. (not the improvement id'e excpect, but.. meh)

Hm mostly default settings, except d3d 2pixel-per-clock enabled, alpha blending=sharper, and 3d filter quality=higher.

DenisF you said:
"I remember when i was on win98se and my trusty V3 i had about 30~50 constant fps..."
What settings (resolution and details) you had at your V3 (because I played that game 2-3 dayz ago too, and I had very bad framerate at 800x600)  :'(

1024*768*16bit using HardwareT&L (geometry assist) with all the details at high, and view distance (or is it draw distance?) set at maximum.

Frame rates never dropped below 30, even on those mecc missions where you build your base i had about 40~ constant.

No Sh*t!!! :o

I can't belive....

How do you mean "using HardwareT&L (geometry assist)"... some tweaking software or ..?? Tell me how should I optimize my V3 to make it working with such framerate!! :-/

Note!!! My Voodoo 3 2000 has only 8Mb of video RAM!!!! (it is integrated at MoBo)
Thnx ;D

maybe that's the issue, mine's a 3000 16mb...

In the latest original 3dfx win9x drivers there's a feature called 'geometry assist' which is basicly like 3danalyze's HWT&L emulation, or something..
makes a hell lot of difference in giants, for me atleast..
You should try to enable it, and after you do (+reboot system) lunch the game, go to options -> graphics and choose the Hardware TnL option (instead of HAL), restart the game and viola the game works faster :)

(atleast it did for me :()
