It's an OLD GFX card - chances are that (like with many old cards) the Win XP driver support is either cr@p or non-existent... :(

...unfortunate I know, but it happens with older cards! :'(

(except maybe 3Dfx cards - LOL!) ;D

Did you use this Driver :

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/legacy-xp.html

That's as new as it gets for the ATI Rage I'm afraid. Not sure if there were ever 3rd party Drivers for the ATI Rage.

A far shot, but sometimes big Notebook manufacturers get updated drivers for their business Notebooks long after the official support for regular customers is discontinued. Chances are, there 'might' be some more recent Rage Drivers in some Notebook Driver package, you'll have to search them.

tried it still a no go. Strange how it has 32mb memory ,enough to play halo and the old driver had the capability.
The error message displayed in halo says your driver has known issues with the game. Odd how the 98 driver capability didnt transfer over to the xp one they developed

It is not unusual for Legacy Hardware to get only "Desktop and basic 3D" Drivers for later OS'es.

By the time WinXP was released, Driver development for the already ageing Rage 128 series was long finished.

WinXP is not a good choice if you want to retain legacy Hardware.
I've never understood why people are installing it on older Hardware (which usually means nothing but trouble)

It's like driving an oldtimer to a regular Gas station and demanding a set of original new tires. It just does not work...

strangely enough I remeber the last 98 driver release for the card did not work in halo either. Ati Must have "fixed something".

If I was you, I'd get a used ATI Radeon card (Radeon 7000 or 7500 series).

10x the performance, available as PCI and AGP, dirt cheap and good Drivers for WinXP.

I use a Radeon 9700Pro as my main card - it's by no means 'top of the line' for today's machines... :P

...but you can get them relatively cheap on eBay and they are still a smokin' performance card! ;D

Classic!!!

Heheheheh, LOL! ;D

I've actually had the card since it was brand-spankin' new (back then it was high-end)... ::)

...but it's now considered a good budget, even "classic" card. :P

Still kicks butt though! 8)

Admittedly, we're getting off topic now though... ::)

As a more pertinent question: -

Does anyone know of any "custom" ATI Rage drivers as mentioned by @Falcon? ???

Maybe they're out there...somewhere... :-/
