Title: half-broken 200SBi-what could be the cause? Post by ps47 on 30.09.07 at 01:33:54
the card installs fine and runs stable, but shows artifacts when running 3dgames (other hardware/software/drivers are not the issue, same system runs a fully working SBi without problems):
incubation (glide2x,2d menus/sidebars are displayed correctly): hitman1 (glide3x,everything looks bad): I'm wondering, what could be the source of the trouble? memory,FBIs,TMUs? if I could track it down I may just be able to fix (or let someone fix,to be precise) the card (plenty of spare chips lying around).. |

If 2d runs fine, then i guess its the memory....tmu, or texture unites usually either freeze or show selective artifacts on textures.

these artifacts are typical for broken memory :-/

nope.as I said, the same system runs another 200Sbi without problems. I'll try inspecting the board closely, maybe I'll find some broken ram pins or something.. |

because all the artifacts are rasterized, i guess its the RAM where the ouput picture for the RAMDAC is prepared :-/ hope you can find something visible on your card :)

I don't know which 200SBi you have (green or black) but perhaps you could find some donor Voodoo 2 cards and use their RAM and a GENDAC chip to replace the ones on your 200SBi?

got a v2 with a damaged text. unite (hopefully framebuffer's and 2nd's tu's mem modules are ok) if you want (had a giveaway thread but no one wanted it).

methinks I'll be better selling it off the way it is-I dont like the idea of resoldering of 48 memory chips myself ::)
its a green one btw.. |

So... If you decide to sell it I would be interested into buying the card as it is (if I could cover the price). |

gone already..one more info-after disabling SLI the artifacts were gone, and that probably means the bad memory is somewhere on the slave v2 chipset.we'll see if the guy from CZ manages to fix it..
