can you bench the modded bios with changed timings and the modded bios without changed timings?

1x (changed timings)
tBWL BKWR to Pre at 0
tRL to PRE at 1
Number of Sgram/Sdram chipsets from 0 to 1

1x (timings are original)
tBWL BKWR to Pre at 1
tRL to PREat 0
Number of Sgram/Sdram chipsets from 0 to 1

i want to see the difference if there is one...

I have allready done what you asked for. See previos page...

Quote:
The BIOS that I used for testing on my moded Voodoo 4 with 64 Mb had a few changes oposed to the standard 3DFX 1.15 original BIOS, other than the necesary change of the bit that controles the number of memory banks. Those differences occured not intentionaly and they were fixed into the latest "relese" of the 4800's BIOS. This last one, publicaly available by the courthesy of Mikulaish, has only one change made to the original 1.15 BIOS, as described above. The rest is identical, including RAM timings. Today I flashed my homemade Voodoo 4 4800 64Mb with this release and I have done the exact same testing work as previous, to be able to compare the results with those I got yesterday.
Here are the numbers:

Home-made Voodoo 4 4800 64 Mb @ AGP 4x :
No FSAA : 1578 3D marks
2x FSAA : 804 3D marks

In conclusion:

1x (changed timings)
tBWL BKWR to Pre at 0
tRL to PRE at 1
Number of Sgram/Sdram chipsets from 0 to 1

Voodoo 4 AGP 64 Mb AGP4x :
No FSAA : 1576 3D marks
2x FSAA : 803 3D marks

and:

1x (timings are original)
tBWL BKWR to Pre at 1
tRL to PREat 0
Number of Sgram/Sdram chipsets from 0 to 1

No FSAA : 1578 3D marks
2x FSAA : 804 3D marks

How were you able to solder the memory on?

Wouldn't it be nice to get 64MB of some faster SDram for the next one? Think of the OCablilty Shocked

I might use funny nicknames, but i think i make it clear that it is me.  Wink If not, than I state that I am the one posting under different aliases. And again bios-wise TM30 could clear this up, and hardware-wise if TM30 an osckhar could compare their copper bords to see if anything is different. Anyway 3 different people (Adrian aka. Komponent, Gary and Oscar) have tested their V4 4800, and all 3 had results that show a performance increase since the extra memory is activated.

i will dump the bios as soon as i have time for it. currently not.

So when does production begin and how much are you asking for one of these jewels

Would anyone realy be interested? I didn't thought about realising this mod again, for other people; we did it just to prouve it can be done.

My dayly Job is as a computer service technician and I used one hot air gun a.k.a. heat gun to solder the RAM chips. About the other issue: faster RAM is hard to find...

I was thinking that maybe the some faster ram off of a (dare I say) nVid card could be salvaged for the project.

hehe good idea, those Geforce2 MX400's and GeForce4 MX420's have good 128Bit SDRAM Smiley

to be very honest I rather see a NV card get dismantled than a precious 3dfx or ATi card Grin

I do own 4.5ns EliteMt memory chips (222Mhz), but the problem is that the GPU is limiting in OC for VSA100 cards. There are two types of sillicon for the VSA100: the 220 and the 320. The 220 has a bug and is not able to reach 183Mhz (exceptions might occur). The later 320 (my 3700A has it) can be overclocked to as high as 200Mhz with 6ns Hyundai ram.

you can do a voltmod on this card, so it easily can go over 200Mhz...

True, but above 2.82V (default on my 5500) the heat will kill the chip. I'm not talking 2.9V, because that does not help too much. Maybe for one crazy experiment it would be interesting, but it doesn't really worth the effort. I know for a fact that EliteMT 4.5ns memory is supposed to reach 222Mhz, but it only reaches 220 with normal timings. I beieve that Hyundai 6ns might reach this speed as well. It could be tried on a GF wich has this memory by margining only the memory clock speed. If anyone has the resources, parts, time and patience to do it, i wish him luck!

@Chosen_One: I mean 355-0026-220
@TM30: I don't have a volt-mod scheme, but i might find a way to do it. I still need to buy a V4. It might be a little difficult from pictures. Roll Eyes
