Well, I got the kt3 ultra2. I couldnt find any info in the manual. Except for the fact that it supports 1x, 2x, and 4x. No voltage info though.
I set it up with power and hooked up a v3 pci. In the bios it had options for "auto, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 volts" IIRC.

So anyways, I said screw it and installed the 5500 agp. It went to the bios screen and started windows no problem. Then I ran powerslide in glide and it worked great. I was able to run the barton at almost 2ghz at about a 170mhz fsb. That should be a good speed boost over the palomino that im running at about 1.7ghz(about a 143fsb).

Im going to check the specs on the barton and see what it is "supposed" to run at. But, I think to run faster I have to flash the bios to a newer version.

I installed the kt3 in my tower and hooked everything up. I was having some trouble at first. But it seems to be working well.

I got the fsb up to 174 with the stock 11x multiplier. It looks like its locked. Whenever I change the multi in the bios, it defaults to 9.5. With a 9.5x I was able to run a 191 fsb  Wink .

Im running the sisoft burn in wizard right now. With high stress activated haha. It seems to be running at the 174 fsb without any problems.

Hopefully Ill be happy with this for awhile.   Wink

Edit: I have a question though. At 9.5x I can get to aq 194 fsb and it seems stable. At 11.5x I can run a 174 fsb. What do you think would be better for the 5500 voodoo card and the older games? It looks like the memory bandwidth and cpu arithmetic benchmarks are slightly higher with the 9.5x multiplier and the 194 fsb.

I always liked the idea of getting FSB as high as possible. With CPU higher then 1.4Ghz V5 5500 is already topped. So the next thing would be to max out memory, and with 194Mhz FSB you are doing just that. I would keep it at that setting myself.

I know from my own experience that FSB (memory) is extremely important for some games. For a recent example, in Warcraft III (DOTA) I have some laggs from time to time on Abit KT7A and 2100Mhz (20x105Mhz). As the game performs exactly the same at 640x480 (lowest quality) and 1280x1024 (max quality) (both 16bit) it leads to the conlusion that the video card itselft is not a bottle neck, but something else. As the CPU is well over the minimum requirements, its qute safe to assume that FSB and my SDRAM are lagging behind.

I'm waiting for a newer revision of the Mainboard and a better CPU so that I will be able to run it at 133MHz FSB - that should clear things up a bit.

But don't forget about PCI ang AGP buses :> When You have FSB 174MHz, then you have 34,8MHz on PCI, and AGP 69,9MHz. When You have FSB 191MHz, then you have 38,2MHz on PCI, and AGP 76,4MHz. On FSB 191, PCI Clock is very high, so IDE controller can doing errors.

Yea, I had a sdram setup also(for 2 weeks). It worked well with a thunderbird/ak73(a)board. To be honest, I didnt really see much difference from that or from a ddr ram palomino setup as far as games go. Of course the cpu/bandwidth benchmarks were much higher with the ddr.

The biggest difference I saw was going from a pci 5500 to a agp 5500. I got around 10 more fps on quake 3 (1024x768 everything on high) with the agp. That was no matter which system it was on.

Thats also what I was wondering. I only have 1 generic pci soundcard, which im thinking about replacing with a soundblaster live card. But mainly I was wondering how the 5500 deals with the high fsb.

At 194 the computer seems very stable. But, the sandra burn in test will lock every time. havent seemed to have any problems with lock ups though as far as gaming goes.

Im giving up on trying to finish the burn in test. Im going to go to 195 and see how stable windows and the games are.

I just installed an original Sounblaster Live 5.1 card.  Wink Seems to be working great. But, as I said before. I was wondering what kind of bus speeds the 5500 is stable with.  Smiley

By the way. Im going to sell the ak73 on ebay in the next couple of days.    Wink

Nice info, though wrong mainboard. I need ISA slot too; if I didnt, I would go for Abit KX333 Wink
