When opengl is set to 3dfx, any resolution higher than 800x600 results in the game reseting to software mode! Is this a limitation of the voodoo 3 or am I missing a patch or something? It will play normal gl higher but I prefer the look of the 3dfx driver. I'm sure my 12mb v2'sli play it higher or do they?

Tested on a few other games seems 800x600 is max for 3dfx opengl

You will need to install the minigl "driver" to access the higher resolutions in QuakeII. They can be found on the CD or in FalconFly's archive.
I still remeber this procedure as if it were yesterday. Good old times

"3dfx opengl" in q2 only redirects the game to use the included (very old) 3dfx minigl driver (3dfxgl.dll in the q2 folder).this driver only supports 800*600 or smaller resolutions.to fix this,pick a 3dfx opengl driver of your choice (wickedgl,3dfx minigl),rename it to 3dfxgl.dll and copy it to the q2 folder (overwriting the old driver).load q2,select 3dfx opengl,pick your resolution,and it should work fine.
