Title: OMG!!! Post by gamma742 on 09.02.05 at 02:00:48
I cannot believe the image quality on this thing.
Well, today is the day. I just got the Removable H.D.D. carrier and receiver from FedEx and yesterday Gary surprised me with an AWE32 along with my 100SB from my international trade. So yesterday I was playing around with my new 100SB, added my shades to it and played some Descent2 (GLIDE) and UNREAL it's working well. So today is Mercury day, I installed my new SCSI U.W. 3 and cloned the old U.W. 2 over to the new drive. Everything was working well so I installed Partition Magic and split my drive and ran Norton Ghost to back up the C: on to the D: partition. Now I'm ready to install the AWE32 into the Merc. Man, what a pain, I needed to turn on PNP as the Mercury runs on NT4, Plug N Play is off by default. As soon as I got that turned on new hardware was detected, sound, game port, etc. I fired up UNREAL and man let me tell you, I have never seen it look so good. I mean to tell you, I was stunned. Just yesterday I was testing the 100SB 4440 @ 800X600 and thought it was looking pretty nice. Some jaggies, but that was to be expected @ 8X6 right? Well what I was staring at today was a full-on Q3D Mercury System running and 512X384 in the "flyby" and NO JAGGIES!! Can you believe it NO JAGGIES @ 512X384. I can't believe it myself. I have to get VDX over here to see this. Gary, you know what I'm talking about. The AA on this thing is absolutely phenomenal !! |

yeps that's right the Mercury set does automaticly FSAA x4 so it's quite well known that you don't see anyjaggies, Gary once found this out in an older topic :) And yes it's very interesting that so many Voodoo2 chips are needed to do FSAA x4 and Motion Blur ::) If you do the Q3 Motion Blur test you shall see that the Merc also does that, quite something huh :P |

Your right it, does also do motion blur but it doesn't quite look as good as the Voodoo5. I am getting a T-buffer error while running it.
I have a couple of games I want to see on it. Mainly, Deuse Ex and Undying, both run on the modified UNREAL engine and are "GLIDE" friendly. |

Yes, no T-buffer so it doesn't look as good as 5500/6000 with motion blur quake. Deus Ex works fine on Merc, I have it loaded on mine. |
