well,I think we have just reached the peak of weirdness,or something like that.the game launched fine for me,using koolsmokys glides..you can try the latest original glide2x just to be sure,and if it still wont work,well,some nuts are just too hard to be cracked

machine: athlonxp/ecs k7s5a/256mb ram/s3 virge/voodoo2 single,running koolsmokys driver (but using the official memory mapper,more stable if you dont need the extra compatibility boost for newer chipsets) under xp and the 3dfx dx7beta (k7 compatible) driver under win98se.

no problems with launching the game (using the prequel 3dfx exe),menu is perfect,after entering the game everything looks great..both two seconds 'till it locks up.basically any glide2x newer than 2.56 will allow me to do this (older ones crash to desktop)..

I'll try to fool around a bit more,but not sooner than tomorrow evening,me needs to go to work this morning.24/7 support is paaain..sometimes
