Title: AGP.5 agp2pci prototype VS Change-AGP2PCI
Post by trevormacro on 05.12.11 at 00:25:55
Hi all,

I've received the complete AGP.5 agp2pci prototype from Ren.

I make some tests with 3dmark2001se.

Hardwares :

- Asus Maximus IV Extreme
- Intel 2600k @3,4 GHz
- 4 Go DDR3
- 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP
- Supermicro RSC-RR1UE-AXL adaptor
- AGP.5 agp2pci prototype (@66 MHz)
- Kurouto Shikou Change-AGP2PCI (@66 MHz)

Softwares :

- Windows XP Pro Sp3 (x86)
- Koolsmoky Betas Drivers

Modded @66 MHz :

Voodoo5 5500 AGP @166 MHz :

Comparaison with Kurouto Shikou Change-AGP2PCI (@66 MHz) :

With Beta Koolsmoky Drivers : 3625 marks ( 66 mhz )

Conclusion :

Same score with 3dmark2001se :

- 3625 marks (AGP.5 agp2pci prototype)
- 3625 marks (Kurouto Shikou Change AGP2PCI)

quite odd-the prototype should suffer from perfomance drops. hmmm..maybe the 66Mhz mode is not affected?

yes, the resuts are the same :)
Afaik in the test phase the adapter was tested only at 33Mhz.
A voodoo5 6000 would work as well, with the same results as the original agp2pci adapter !

Please test it and post the results Michael ;)

When I test the AGP.5 card with 3dmark2001se, I put sellotape on pin look the picture !

3625 marks with AGP.5 modded @66 MHz.

@33 MHz with koolsmoky drivers look the benchmark : only 3247 marks

have you tried a v5 pci in that agp-x adaptor? seeing the score would be interesting..

3620 3dmarks on a v5pci. seems like the latest prototype is actually fully operational. you really should consider producing a batch or two, pretty sure you could manage it with your resources.

Very good news !
:)
Good ideea ps47 !
Michael can produce a small batch from this adapter :)
I am sure that there will be no problem to find buyers !

It is wery interesting to follow the test and development of AGP2PCI-e addapter. I am also interested for one coz I see the chance to test and compare the "old" AGP's and new developed cards under almoust same conditiom. It would be wery interesting to compare one 6800GT AGP and one 6600GT PCI-e from same company and with same specifikations. The two question which I have in background are - compatibility with other cards... posibilty to use AGP2 with lower voltage... maybe one impulse to think in this direction. I would be glad to help, so far I can, in this project.

In test : Voodoo5 6000 rev.3700 A

Hardwares :

Start : Voodoo5 6000 Rev.3700A on AGP.5 agp2pci prototype

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0wI96CGFKg

Windows XP Pro SP3 Boot :

3DMark2001se :

Drivers : SFFT 1.8

The Voodoo5 6000 work with AGP.5 prototype adaptor.

In 2000 I have baught the Voodoo5 5500 AGP in Paris !
I didn't use it for 10 years!
Sorry for the dust ...

My first working on AGP.5 working prototype adaptor :

- IC1 before :

- IC1 after :

ps. IC1 is soldered because: 1) slightly better cooling of IC1 2) mechanical stability.
IC1 can easily go up to 130 celsius under load. Over 150 celsius it will burn.

Can someone do me a favor and test a real PCI-X card in that PCI-E/PCI-X Adapter? I need a PCI-X Slot for my SCSI Card but it should run at 64bit/133Mhz if possible...

IC1 solder joints look rough, hopefully that will not affect performance

No, it won't. IC1 and IC2 are only voltage regulators that convert 5V to 3.3V => So no direct impact on the bus-signals itself. There may be some variability in the voltage supply because of heat and different load, but that's where the small SMD capacitors come into play ;)

offtopic: Loeschzwerg, I noticed your Abarth logo, do you have a Fiat?

Ahh, I like the Spider :) Had to decide between my current car and a Spider (red and no Abarth).

This is my car:
http://www.abload.de/thumb/a112_dingensu9mu.jpg

It's an Autobianchi A112 Junior year 1984. It had a 48HP engine but it was changed angainst a 70HP engine of an A112 Abarth (year 1979).

EDIT: Fixed the image link.
