Title: what to do. Post by msdos on 09.05.14 at 05:59:18
OK I need more power in my 3dfx system, more GPU power that is.
But I don't know what to do. My system is in my sig. Here is what I'm thinking. Volt mod the voodoo 3. This will alliw me to play games at higher rez. But I will lack real time aa and 32-bit color. And the heat. A newer GPU and a par of voodoo2's This would be nice for playing newer games at higher rez, and older games might be simpler to setup. But I will not be able to play older games at higher rez or have real time aa and 32-bit color. I do have a old CRT I could switch to for the Voodoo's. Voodoo 5500. It would be a thought fit in my system and I would need a new PSU. Other than that I'd love one. That and I'd need to find one. Withch would you go for? |

I don't really see how voltmodding your voodoo3 would help, just check what ns yer ram of yer card is and you'll get an idea how far ya can go.
Voodoo2 SLI is nice, but limited, so I would go for the 5500.....best card in the bunch and not too expensive if it is an AGP version |

Have you considered a Voodoo4 4500?

I would seek for a 5500. In the meanwhile squeeze out more power juice from the 3000 could be interesting. The Voodoo3 3000 could be equiparable or even better of a V2 SLi setup, so I see no reason for the latter if you are looking for performances. No 32bit, true, but what is often forgotten is that you can display 22bit color output instead of 16bit, thanks to the special 3dfx algorithm filter, with no virtually performances drop (actually just a little but not noticeable). If you go for a 5500 is basically for the FSAA.
4500 is a nice one but it is more difficult to find of a 5500. Then the economic speculation practiced on this card could make the 5500 more attractive than a 4500 considering the performance/money POV. And basically you get not much more than 32bit support. |
