Title: 3dfx Interactive
Post by smiserandino on 06.06.04 at 04:45:35
I have a HP Pavillion 2002 AMD Athlon XP 1600+ 1.4 GHz - 248 MB of Ram.  I am currently experiencing graphic lag.  I was given a 3dfx video card.  I'd like to know if I can install it on my PC?  If not what do I need to purchase in order to increase my fps?  Currently, I am running on the intergrated video card.  Can you advise me?  Thank you.

Putting a 3dfx card in there would reveal a whole new ("old") world for you;
There aren't any new drivers for these cards since.. uh.. 2000
And, it won't run any games that require TnL with adequete performance.

Id'e say, go to your local PC shop, and get a GeForce FX 5200 (NOT SE/XT!!!!) or a Radeon 9200 (again, NOT SE!!!).

Both of which will give you some excellent bang-for-buck :) (and they cost around 50$)

If you're willing to spend a bit more (100$?), get the Radeon 9600 (yet again, NOT SE!!!), or if you manage to find one; a Radeon 9500Pro.

Why not GeForce FX 5200 (NOT SE/XT!!!!) or a Radeon 9200 (again, NOT SE!!!). ?
What  bad thing have in common these boards from
SE/XT series and SE series ?

The Radeon 9200SE (or any 9xx0 SE version for that matter) is a castrated version. It has less pipelines to work with so performance takes a serious hit.

And again, look at the dates!

(Informations  from 2004,but still...informations. ;D)
Okay,in  the future I will look at the dates.
Then why the topics from 2004 are not removed  ?
Thank you

Because if they're removed, stupid people will ask the same questions over and over ;D
