Mapmem error
04.05.05 at 17:31:58

Hello.

Have two Voodoo2 cards set up in my Athlon Nforce 2 system. Primary card GF4 4600

Running Windows 2000 and was using the reference drivers.
All was working fine...........
However a recent problem has occurred whereby when trying to run a glide app, it crashes and returns a mapmem error, unable to map to memory.

Any ideas. Are my cards kaput?

Cheers

Andy

it's quite a known issue that combineing two Voodoo2's on a nForce based chipset won't work. a VIA, AMD, ALi, Intel  or SiS  chipset would be a better option.

I had the same problem with my nForce2 ULTRA SPP and nForce3 150 and 250Gb chipset based systems.

Now that I have VIA based chipsets my worries were over Smiley So I NV and 3dfx don't really like eachother chipset based then.

Your best bet... Tongue

Use a Voodoo 4 or Voodoo 5 in conjunction with your GeForce! Grin

oh yes ofcourse hehe sorry I didn't mention that how clumsey of me, oh well we are humans to foreget things hehe. but yes Paulpsomiadis has a point there or a Voodoo3 2000 or 3000 PCI ofcourse Wink the only AGP card that will work from 3dfx brand will be the AGP x4 only :Voodoo4 4500.

the 4500AGP is the only Voodoo that really works on AGP x4 mode and also the only one that supports 1.5 volt AGP x4 and x8 slots Wink

imho NForce2 is the best chipset for Athlon XP systems, it's supperior in almost every aspect.
SoundStorm which is integrated in NForce2 SPP boards also is the the best integrated sound solution i've seen, actually there are rumors that on that project featured people form ex-Aureal..

As for your problem i would suggest to create a seperate system for playing old games or you could search for pci version of v3/v4/v5 as i guess you wouldn't want to replace your gf4ti with v4.

well I fixxed the problem with selling the nForce2 ultra board and buying a KT333 based chipset.

the VIA KT880 is the best AthlonXP chipset by far. it beats the nForce2 ULTRA allround.

The ASUS A7V880 is the best board with the VIA Apollo Pro KT880 Smiley it has Dual DDR 400 support up to 4x 1GB PC-3200 can be installed, that's anice 4GB of PC-3200 total Tongue

What you could do is use the Ti4600 as Main VGA and a V3,4 or 5 PCI as secondary VGA Smiley like I did with my Leadtek GF4 Ti4600 & 3dfx V5 5500 PCI setup Smiley works flawlessly.
