Title: Voodoo3 1000 AGP Driver CD Post by janskjaer on 02.06.04 at 14:27:58
Does anyone know if the Voodoo 3 1000 ever came with a retail driver CD by 3dfx? ???
It was companies like Compaq and Dell that produced this card, right? It's just that I have come across a 3dfx Voodoo3 1000 manual, that looks just like all the other manuals that were shipped with other Voodoo3 cards (e.g. 2000 AGP/PCI and 3000 AGP/PCI series). Does this mean that 3dfx/STB also produced some of the Voodoo3 1000's for general release? As it surely would have been a Dell or Compaq manual what would have accompanied the card if it was meant for one of the Dell or Compaq machines. So if a 3dfx manual exists for this card, does this mean a 3dfx retail driver CD also exists? If it does, does anyone have one? |

The card is supported by the 3dfx Voodoo 3 driver set, the clock speed is set by the card bios. Quote:
Depends on which version! The no-heatsink V3-1000 was just done for Compaq with no sale to general public as far as I know. I have only seen the 125 mhz no heatsink card used in Compaq's. Quote:
Sure, it's called a Velocity 100! All the Bonesteel Gateway cards (marked V3-1000) and Velocity 100 cards I have are identical except for the decal on the bios chip. |

Yes, I know. I have one. ;D
But the fact remains, that a 3dfx Voodoo3 1000 AGP was also created with a Voodoo3 1000 manual, WRITTEN BY 3DFX. This is what makes it so interesting. If Vendors such as Gateway, Dell and Compaq were to ship their own versions of this card, surely they would have shipped it with their OWN manual, not 3dfx's. So this leaves the question, why was the manual developed, and who for? If there is a manual, does this mean a retail 3dfx driver CD was created also, as part of the package? |

Are you sure about that? Take a picture of that puppy! I have had 2 Compaq computers with 3dfx cards and they had NO manuals at all for the video cards. Everything else was there including the restore discs and manuals for sound and keyboard but no manuals. It was mentioned once before that 3dfx sold chips to compaq with no support, perhaps there is truth to that. FWIW- The Compaq discs carry the 3dfx drivers and when the system is restored all is loaded. |

Hi If,
Nice of you to join us in this discussion. :) You mention you have a V3-1000 card with manual and "drivers". But do you own the 3dfx retail driver CD for the V3-1000? Did the card come with a driver CD? Or was it just the manual? |

Title: Re: Voodoo3 1000 AGP Driver CD Post by janskjaer on 07.06.04 at 13:24:18
Yes, but the disc if scanned is an 'off-grey' colour. So it is most likely that it is different from the blue disc. ;D
And, yes, it is a colour scan of the disc, otherwise how would you explain the red colour used on top of the manual :P? (whatever it is ???) |
