Title: [W] Voodoo 5 5500, PCI or AGP
Post by RaptorZX3 on 22.07.13 at 05:44:16
i'm looking for that card, i know it'll take a while though. I don't mind if there's no box, as long as it can be shipped properly and inside an anti-static bag.

i would be more interested in trading though, my situation right now isn't very good, so i would need to keep more money for foods and spendings.

i have old PC stuff here, no 3DFX cards though. To make a quick list, i have:

-2/4mb PCI video cards, some newer ones (16/32mb AGP)
-AOpen AP53 Socket 7 main board (x3)
-a few Pentium 1 Socket 7 CPUs (no MMX)
-EDO RAM sticks, SDRAMs
-SB16, SB32 sound cards and other brands (no Gravis)
-PCI SCSI 68-pins card
-9.1gb and 36.7gb SCSI 68-pins HDDs (10k rpm)

Also, i just found a set of 2 IDE hard disks that are the exact same model and size (Seagate ST 340016A 40gb), so i believe they could be used in RAID.

Don't be jealous, V5 5500 AGP is not a rare card and it's not very expensive either. I'm sure you'll find one soon, keep an eye on ebay and on your local sites (from Canada), you'll grab one.

Kijiji is lame for stuff like that, though there's someone in Montreal selling a Voodoo 3 2000 AGP for 15$, and someone else in Laval selling a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI for 40$ which is a bit expensive...

Tell me, what would be the equivalent in the ATI or Nvidia for the 5500? I know they don't use the same technology, but heh...if it can be compared to other cards.

The cards from nvidia & ati that were available at that time, were the Geforce2 gts/pro/ultra and the radeon ddr cards.

To compare em to the 5500 is double sided, on 1 hand pure speed / raw power, the 5500 is not the best, but image quality.... 3dfx was arguably the 2nd best in the entire market, only allowing Matrox as a better one.

UT99 still looks at it's best on glide, and 3dfx can run that,  and a lot better then their competition at that time.
