Maf Full Member Offline I Love YaBB 2! Posts: 106	Keeping resolution aspect ratio 06.06.10 at 17:36:45 Hi guys, is it possible with voodoos to keep resolution aspect ratio on displays other than standard 4:3? I can do it with my GF9, but would like to do it with V5 as well. Thanks for any tips.

You will also need to consider what resolutions your monitor can handle. If I'm not mistaking, D-Sub does not have this capability, you need DVI or better for that (plus the drivers themselves have to support it). I'm not 100% sure though.

I use Win98 SE with a Samsung SyncMaster 943swx LCD display which has a native resolution of 1366x768 in conjunction with my Voodoo5 AGP adapter and its VGA output. It allows me to use 640x480, 800x600, 960x720 and 1024x768 resolutions, and they are, with the exception of the 960x720 mode, in the 4x3 fixed aspect ratio with the LCD monitor set to Auto rather than Wide mode (which only stretches the image). In other words, I always have the black bars on the sides, except in 960x720 mode which gets stretched. As is usually the case with this type of LCD display, the desktop image is a little fuzzy if I run it at anything other than 1024x768, but it is acceptable for games at other resolutions. I use the last 3dfx Voodoo5 reference drivers.

I bought the 19 inch Samsung display because both of my old 17 inch CRTs failed, and I was hoping to find something that would allow me to continue to use the Voodoo5 adapter. I lost a half inch of usable display area vertically and horizontally compared to the 17 inch CRTs, but given the fact that I don't use the 960x720 mode at all, the Samsung turned out to be an excellent substitute for the CRTs. It even had a Win98 SE driver, although I don't use it.

Is your monitor onscreen display set to Wide or Auto mode? That could account for why you are unable to get the 4x3 aspect ratio.

As far as I understood, you can control stretching with your display's OSD right? My LG 19" doesn't have such options. Or is it the voodoo driver? But exactly, I want to get black bars on top and bottom (this screen is 5:4).

It can also be a feature of the monitor, not necessarily of the card/driver. I also use a monitor that can do this with its OSD back home.
