Title: AGR slot & 3.3V 3Dfx cards..
Post by ps47 on 09.03.09 at 11:08:57
..pretty sure we already had a topic about this somewhere, but I'm either doing something horribly wrong or the search is not working as it should.

anyway,I can finally confirm that all 3.3V 3dfx cards (up to v5 5500agp) work fine in the AGR slot, all you have to do is remove the agp8x key from the slot and you are ready to go..

note: the bugged pic in the original topic is displaying the infamous FSAA bug (should be fixed in latest builds of SFFT driver),and it is not related to the hardware.

hmm this is interesting, what motherboard did you use ps47?

ah I looked from the topic you linked hehe
MSI K8N Neo3, makes it more interesting, maybe finding an Athlon64 3700+ might be more interesting, it could get the scores alot higher  8-)

Are you sure the cards are working at 3,3Volt and not at 1,5Volt?

voodoo5 5500agp is notoriously unstable, unless there is enough juice in the slot.I don't think there is any way to check, but as long as everything is stable,I would say that full 3.3V are supplied.

if the slot does not have enough power, you have to do all sort of nasty stuff to get it there..

I think you can check it in the BIOS or in one of those screens during booting sequence.

Would someone verify that by testing it too?

And would someone sell some premodded boards?

i'm interested about the results.

MSI K8N Neo3 works ok,as mentioned in the first post.

The cards are working at 3,3Volt ? did u manage to measure the AGR voltage ?

Would a v5 6000 run in AGR slot ?

The Thread on the CZ forum is not updated anymore.

the voltage has not been measured, but as I said, the 5500 ran stable, that means the slot has been supplying 3.3V.

Maybe at lower resolutions, max framerate at higher resolutions has already been found need more video memory to improve these.

AGP 8X:
AGP 2.0 ---1.5V
AGP 3.0 ---0.8V
Plug 3.3V Card in mobo of AGP 2.0 means 3.3V card working in 1.5V and it's 0.8V to a AGP 3.0 mobo,right?
So,how do SDRAMs RUN under such low voltage?Equivalent to De-over colck of RAMs greatly,is it still work?Theoretically the card will not crash, but it's an abnormal condition i think.

@Pps47: can u please post some pictures with the system, construction and so on ? ( picture from AGR w/out the card pluged ).

Is the voodoo5 working from a long time ( years ? ) in this slot ? I'm interested if there are problems by running it long time.
If there is some incompatibilty, the card normaly failed or die after a couple of months.

the system is not mine, and I doubt the owner still has it running, but I'll ask.

ok,it seems like the v5 was overheating a bit....btw,any idea why I cannot edit my own posts in this thread?

what do u mean exactly with overheating ?
the v5 is running hot normaly. Did he measure the temp ?

what else he remark, and how much time did the v5 run in the slot ?

a voodoo3 run in the agr slot ? can he try ?

yeah,he measured it and it was more than usual,he had to add extra cooling to keep the temperatures at standard levels.anyway,he doesn't have the board anymore,so no further testing can be done-basically,he scrapped the project as soon as he found out that no extra performance can be gained this way,as k7 barton running on a kt333 chipset board gives almost identical performance, and without (potentially) risky mods.

Needs more onboard memory to go faster !
