A box filled with just STB V2's. Sounds like a box that was meant for resellers who would sell the cards under their own brand. Nothing special. There are probably warehouses all over the world that still have a few boxes with old, never used, videocards. |

Oddly enough I just bought 2 cards from that very page a few days ago. He sent me 3 cards, with a note that said "These cards work, but I sent 3 just in case". They are beautiful cards. The PCB's are still shiny. They look like they just came off the line. Hell, even the PCI connectors are MINT. No scrapes or anything. I'm in the process of making an SLI cable, and my friend says he has one somewhere. I'm about to test them out, then I'll make a thread about it.

That's what they call 'NOS', New Old Stock. Just like Nitrox said there are warehouses full of never used stuff from the past :).

Exactly. There are a lot of forgotten boxes in warehouse all around the world. Some factories could make Voodoo2 cards, but the chance is VERY small, the profit would be too small.
There are still a lot of V2 chips available, but you still need fast EDO memory (I don't think it's so cheap), you need to make the PCB, etc. And if you want to get a decent price you need to make a nice box, CD, manual, etc. And you could sell the final product with 30 euro ... maybe. Is it worth it ? I don't think so. It would be much more profitable to make V5 6000 cards, VSA-100 chips are also easy to find, SDRAM for the card is cheaper than EDO RAM and you don't need to make a box for it or manual/CD. And you can get 1000 euro very easy for each card. But there's a problem : you can't make a lot of cards and flood the market, the price would go down very fast. So I don't see any reason to make Voodoo cards now... |

It appeals to collectors. They of course are only reproductions but it would be fun to see a PCIe version of any 3dfx cards :P

That would require a bridge chip seeing as no Voodoo is PCIe compatible. That bridge chip would probably cost more than the Voodoo and memory chips together. :P

I don't think that the agp to pci-e chip would be to expensive, similar chips were made years ago for 6800 Ultra and they were quite cheap back then. If a company would start to make such chips in large quantity I'd say that they could sell them with a few dollars. But I think that Voodoo cards should remain only for PCI and AGP. And they should be used in "back then" computers, I don't understand peoples who install Voodoo2 in Core I7 computers. And I don't understand peoples who try new games with Voodoo cards when you can get much higher quality and speed with recent cards. A Voodoo card should be used in a retro config and should be used to play old games made for glide. But that's only my opinion. |
