How rare is this card? I landed one at a local shop for $25 :o I know that I overpaid the greedy pricks but just wondering.

I'd pay $25 for that. They're not that rare but for one of the best performing tile based rendering chips out there it's a good price.

The Hercules 3d Prophet 4500 Kyro2 is not that rare at least you can find it regularly for sale on ebay at reasonable prices even in retail form.
The Hercules 3D Prophet 4800 Kyro2SE on the other hand is very hard to find (been looking for this one for quite some time). Edit: Here is a link not in English but does have pictures and specs of the Kyro2SE http://www.frazpc.pl/artykuly/259101,Recenzja-KYRO-2-SE.html |

Well retail versions can be found but I guess they were released in limited quantities. During the same time-frame PowerVR canceled the follow-on chip the Kyro3 and they must have ramped down production on the previous generation of chips in order to pursue a different market space (check the iPhone for clues). Some time later Hercules all-together left the 3D graphics scene. It's really too bad I liked the diversity in GPUs, manufactures as they provided competition and an interesting assortment of cards were available to customers. |

There isn't much of videos of this card or any of it's family that being of the Kyro so I just might make a video sometime this week.

Kyro II SE officially never made it to market, atleast from my research I did on the card. It came as far as getting ready for shipment to shops and some reviewers already got the card. I don't think many shops got the boxes or even got as far as them being on sale. If they ever did sell for a very limited time only, it must have been only one or two shops. I'd expect perhaps a handful at the most.
I too have been looking for an SE for the longest time ever. If I'm wrong, please let me know. I'd love to be wrong on this one. ;D |

The Kyro II SE as far as I could find, only ended up in a very small number of hands. They pulled the plug on it before it got out to too many review sites and more rare then the V5 6k cards. One of the guys at 3DFXZone had one, his name started with an M if I remember right and also owns a V5 6K. I have no clue if he still has it or not. With no Hardware T&L still and a very small bump in core/mem speed from the Kyro II's the SE ended up not being worth the hype to most review sites.
These cards were awesome when they came out, I have two of them, although only one works. There is a hardware/bios upgrade you can do to them that will allow for AGP x4 slot use instead of just the AGP x1/x2 slot use. You can find that info here (Falcon should take credit for finding the link). http://www.paraknowya.de/articles/agpmod/index.shtml |

Here's the post I started about this very subject back in 08'. http://www.falconfly.de/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1206997713
Guy that had one went by the name mikepedo from 3dfxzone. I tried contacting him about it but it never went anywhere and he didn't get back to me at all on it. If any of you guys find anything out about a 4800SE, I would love to hear about it. There's no way I could ever afford one now but it would still be cool to see someone here get one. |

Ahh it was worth a shot. I just thought I'd throw that out there, I wonder who he sold it to and how much he got for it.
