i wanted to play Quake 3 on the V5 i got yesterday, cranking details to maximum, but then after the loading, it just crash. I tried lowering details and changing settings, but it still crash. Any idea what could cause this?
i use Amigamerlin v2.9 drivers, Win98SE |

Only Quake 3 or does the system also crash with other games?
Win9x I'm using the latest official 3dfx drivers, they are very fast. |

Quake 3 Arena run just fine with the same drivers (on different main boards, but AGP 1x/2x still) on my Voodoo 3 3000 AGP, and PCI as well.
only Q3A crash like that, other games such as Wheel of Time (Unreal Engine) or MDK2 doesn't crash edit: i found the problem: if i use "GL Extensions: Enabled", it crash, when i Disable that option, it work just fine. I wonder why it's crashing when i have it enabled. |

Follow the Loeschzwerg's advise ;)
Try using latest 3dfx reference drivers for Win98 1.04.01. They are marked as BETA release, but actually the only difference from 1.04.00 is they come with the latest 3dfx OpenGL ICD. This is the best way to test your card and find if it's working properly or not. |

i reinstalled Amigamerlin's v2.9 Win98 package, disabled V-Sync for both Glide and DX, and while turning off "GL extensions" and turning on everything else to maximum (32bit, lightmap, 1024x768...), it run just fine.
Though i wish i had a better P3 to have this card in, so far the best P3 i have is a 866Mhz slot-1 board with 133 FSB. Now if i could find a S370 board with maybe a 1.2-1.4Ghz with 133 FSB and still AGP 2x compatibility, that would be awesome. I tried Rollcage in it in Glide mode, no problem. I'll try more games on it later. |

i formatted this PC and reinstalled all drivers, installed Quake 3 Arena and now the GL Extensions work. Go figure...
