Title: Voodoo graphics reference pcb on new pc's
Post by 3Dfx_tweaker on 08.11.04 at 16:47:48
I have a voodoo graphics (ref design) and it doesn't work on my kt600 mobo. Does somebody know why it isn't working? My friend has tested it on his Athlon and it also doesn't work. Has this something to do with pci 2.2??? Or is it something different.

PS. My voodoo2 SLI is working great in this system.

The card may be fried.  :-/

Do you mean that because they don't work or because I have put them into a maybe to modern system. I can asure you they are not fried. They weren't hot when I tested them. And my friends A-trend still worked after he tested it at a Athlon system.

Hm, some of the PCI related BIOS settings can screw up old Voodoo Cards.

Make sure all enhanced Prefetch, Delay Transaction, PCI 2.2+ compilance and alike features are disabled for testing.

:o :-[. I hope I haven't destroyed My card  :-/.

I do not deserve to call myself a tweaker when I killed 2 voodoo cards in a row.

I think Falcon means that it just stops them from working 'temporarily'... ::)

...and NOT that these MB features will 'fry' the cards! :P

So don't worry! Be cool! 8)

Yep, that's what I meant.

3dfx AGP cards (due to lack of features) usually tend to work with whatever BIOS Options you throw at them (most of those they either can't use anyway or just don't affect them ;) )

Old PCI Cards however, frequently encounter hic-up's (won't POST, shows up in Motherboard's Load screen but doesn't show in Windows Device Manager, or is 'apparently' working but actually won't work correctly at all)

The Cards won't take damage, they just tend to behave severely abnormal, usually until you disable the right BIOS Setting that prevents them from working as they should :)

Unfortunately I can's find a way to disable these stupid features. I have tried to search the BIOS using some Bios utilities, but the search turned out to be not succesful. I am starting to think there is no way to disable it.

I made a few tests with my voodoo1 (in new and old machines),and it seems like voodoo1 is not able to work with direct x9.the v1 always worked on machines with dx8 an never on machines with dx9..

yes,but v2 works fine (and as long as it works fine,I can forget some stupid micro$oft test),but v1 just cant handle this-no good drivers.it would need fastvoodoo1 xp ;D

It is a pitty that glide3x has so little to do with this or maybe it hasn' t I still don' t know glide3x if I would have liked. But I'm working on it, if there is something that is wrong with Glide3x and voodoo graphics contact me and I'll try to figure out how to solve the bug.
