3dfx Spectre amd nVIDIA Geforce 3/4/FX
25.01.10 at 15:37:44

Hey guys,

I was reading a little background info on the specs of the Rampage blueprints in comparison to some of nVIDIAs cards around the same time-line, trying to find out which nVIDIA cards best resembled those pencilled in for the Rampage era (Spectre 1k, 2k and 3k).  Fusion and Mojo designs were so far ahead that it is impossible to correlate their specs to any resemblance in any card nVIDIA made, so I am discounting them in this investigation.

Using the development time-line, I researched many articles that concluded a lot of the 2D-side of the Spectre cards could have been used in NV25 and NV30 chipsets.  NV20 would have already been finished or close-to-finished before the final step in the 3dfx takeover, so we can rule that chipset out.
It is possible that cards such as NV40 and up may have used some of 3dfx's Rampage technology, but it's difficult to find out more information.

I was also so desperate, as to try and do a physical comparison with the Rampage prototype and that of Geforce 3, 4 and FX cards.  That got me no where. Cheesy

What are others forum members feelings and opinions on this, as to which nVIDIA cards resembled the Rampage technology the most?  Smiley

Apparently the GeForce FX was rumoured to include "borrowed" 3Dfx tech... Wink

No real proof though... Undecided

I heard (long-time ago, don't remember where) that the GeForce FX uses the 2D-core that was used in the Rampage. As I don't have proof, sources or whatsoever I'm unsure but who knows ... Wink.

Most of the design team working on "Rampage" (the successor to the VSA-100 line) was transferred to the team working on what has since become the GeForce FX series.

Unsure what source is used on Wikipedia, though.

Not quite complete I think, as they stated back then, the Geforce FX series was to be a tribute to the late 3DFX and would incorporate the stuff that 3DFX acquired when they took over Gigapixel amongst other techniques, but ofcourse I could be wrong.

But that is about it in regards to what they said they would use of 3DFX tech as far as I know.
