Nice Work Tweakstone !

It looks perfect to me ! I'm impressed !

Did u modify also the cooper plate ? afaik the caps near to the VSA's are a problem, because they are higher than the VSA's.
How did u solve this problem ?
More pictures please !  Smiley

I'm allways happy to see that are still persons who are doing something for the 3dfx ! My compliments !

Again, nice work !
Smiley

Thanks guys Smiley
It was ALOT of work indeed Cheesy
I had to drill holes for every single cap into the copper plate, as well as holes for the bios chip, and other components, which I can't name in english Cheesy (you might look at your own 5500's to figure out which they might be Wink Cheesy ). And that's one hell of some work already...
At first I put some termal grease on every "high" component, put the cooler onto the card and looked for marks on the underside. step by step I was able to drill the holes that way.

Then I drilled holes through the copper plate for the screwes that now fix it onto the card. The fan was replaced, because I think the current one has a bit more potential and looks cooler at the same time Cool Grin

Because it was _a bit_ ( Wink ) tricky to finally mount the cooler onto the card (especially with the fan, which doesn't fit originally on the cooler and had to be perfectly centered - look at the pic, it's CLOSE to the plastik Cheesy ), I might not remove it again too soon to take pics from the underside etc, please forgive me Roll Eyes

But I will take some other pics tomorrow or so and see what I can do with the decal work Smiley

You might want to give each component more room for maneuvering under the heatsink. Wink

If that copper shifts even 1mm near an electrical contact - ZAPP! BOOM! Shocked

The results would be VERY not good! Undecided

BTW - once you have it fitting "perfect" (please take your time) then you can show us some pictures of it working with the new HSF. Cool

The card is perfectly cool, but doesn't work under 3D anymore - I must have damaged it while working on it. I will purchase a new 5500 for the cooler sometime this year or so, I'm just not in a hurry about it atm Wink

@paul:
the cooler is perfectly tight on the board -> definitely no room for maneuvering, don't worry Smiley

When I
- have a new card
- have it working with the cooler
- have a nice decal or something on it
.. I wil post pics, do tests according temps etc, don't worry Smiley

But it'll take some time I fear, I don't have too much time for it atm and furthermore, the prices for 5500s a bit too high @ebay atm for my taste Roll Eyes

Too bad that the card is not working in 3D anymore.
I recomand that you take the cooler down, and clear the card well.
That should help !

By doing this you can also made an copy of the cooper plate Smiley
I'm willing to do this mod  too Wink

Yeah, remove the cooler and clean the card with rubbing alcohol. Smiley

Then take some hires shots of the card and modded cooler. Cool

This should let us modders try and duplicate your results. Wink

It might also let the electronics experts on the forum spot what is wrong with your V5500... Cool

Me and a friend contemplated on what would work good for cooling a 5500 and I came up with laptop CPU heatsinks Smiley Heatpipped design and they are small shaped which generally fits the GPU nicely. And with all the different Laptops out there, there's no doubt you'll find one that will fit perfectly, or with only a bit of work.

I've been thinking of using 2 V3 heatsinks and making them actively cooled.
