It's not "real" SLI. If nVidia really had SLI (Scanline Interleave) they would have used a very long time ago.

Heck, they didn't even use "Scanline Interleave", because they can't, that'd be patent infringement. So they went to the next "best thing", Scalable Link Interface, so as to get people ranting and raving about how SLI is back, etc.

SLI (Scanline Interleave) belongs to an individual, and we'll just leave it at that.

Credit to nVidia for trying, but they are too close to touching copyright infringement laws as it is.
It is a blatant rip-off of the original ingenius idea that 3dfx had a hand in.  The way in which the technology works (the vertical break-up and split between the two cards) is nowhere near as great as the original invention.

The cheapest GF6800GT is £289 ($517) and the cheapest GF6800Ultra is £369 ($660), with the most expensive GF6800Ultra being £575 ($1029)!!!

So what fool is going to fork out around $1300 (GT) - $2060 USD (Ultra) for 2 GeForce6800's, then fork out for at least one Xeon CPU and an (rare, if not pricey) workstation mobo with TWO PCI-E x 16 slots!Roll Eyes

nVidia are asking too much!  3dfx had the right idea all along with SLI.  Cheap and less fuss! 8)

Do you know who owns the patent of SLI exactly?

http://v3.espacenet.com/origdoc?DB=EPODOC&IDX=KR274654&QPN=KR274654

Does that mwans that it is a Korean that owns it or does that means nothing? Tongue
