what OS are you using?
what drivers are you using?
i tried it with win98, dx8.1b, v4 4500, and the game will not run, even tried it with 3danalyzer, but get error message videocard not T&L, checked the readme file and in there says that the game will not run on any videocard with software T&L, only videocards with hardware T&L, luckily i have 2 spare system one with a v3 3000 and the other with a radeon 8500le 128m,  but main system is still my v4 4500.

It has to be run thru the 3dAnalyser version 1.5.2 if you are on a v4/v5. Make sure to force 32bit rendering in the video driver.
I runs very well on my v5 win98se.

yep used 3d analyze 1.5.2, force 32 bit color, tried desktop to 32 bit, do you have geometry assist enabled, if so, then that must be  the difference, why the v4 can't run the game, v4 4500 has no geometry assist. [w98, v4 4500, dx8.1b.]
what dx version are you using, dx8.1a or 8.1b?

?

All newer 3dfx Win9x Drivers allow Geometry assist, for Voodoo3, 4 and 5...

Since it's DX7 Emulation performed by the Driver alone, it is not Hardware dependent in that way...

If you find this Option is not there, another Driver should do the trick. All of the latest Reference Drivers I know of have the Option in their Advanced Property pages.

The only Drivers that do not have this Option functional/implemented are the Win2k/WinXP Drivers...
The Emulation never worked there for some reason.

what do you have check in 3danalyze 1.5.2?

so far i have been to get to the main game menu now, but when i try to start the game, crash back to desktop, i have tried so far with 3danalyze 1.5.2,
force sw tnl
emulate hw tnl caps[needed to check this one to get to the game menu]
i have tried all the others caps under dx8.1 options, hardware limits, in different combination, but nothing worked.
also what settings are you using in your 3dfx tools for direct 3d?

it does run, a lot of trial and error,
playing the first level now.

win98, dx8.1b, v4 4500,
[d3d drivers]
3dfx16vs.drv   11\2\00  [1.04.00 whql]
3dfx32vs.dll    11\2\00  [1.04.00 whql]
3dfxvs.vxd     2\14\01   [1.07.00 beta]

settings used to get it to run,
but plan to play with setting,
what i can enable or disable now.

[settings]
====================
3dfxtools\vcontrol

======================
3danalyze 1.5.2
[enabled][checked]
in dx8.1 option

eulate other dx8.1 caps
========================
startup menu settings
in display

Re 3DAnalyser settings. I think emulate HARDWARE t&l should be selected, actually all directX 8.1 emulations.
In the game options just disable the hardware cursor.
For the video options play with the resolutions, depends on you cpu power etc. One bug tho, make sure dynamic lights are off(in game video option) and don't use the flashlight.
