Old DOS games and Windows
13.06.07 at 16:10:58

Ok, since getting my new banshee card I was going through my cd collection and came across some very old games. Witch Haven I and II, Ultima 8 (remember this being a really long game). Got some other that I can't remember off the top of my head. Anyway, I'm putting Win98 instead of Win2k. Problem is I think Ultima 8 is pure dos, wouldn't work right under 95 (at the time at any rate but also didn't know as much back then either), but it's been a LONG time since I've really messed around with DOS at all. I'm wondering if anyone can remember how to make Ultima 8 run under 98. Ultima 8 was played on my old Win 3.1 machine way back when and I just can't remember how I had it loaded.

Somebody at VOGONS mentioned this site:

Check the "Ultima 8 in Windows" link on the left side of the page.

Actually, there is a 'special' build of DosBox that allows GLiDE to be emulated using a GLiDE wrapper in WinXP... Wink

...but it's bad enough getting some DOS games to run - never mind WITH GLiDE support! Roll Eyes

OMG! WTF! Shocked

Actually, there is another Windows GLiDE Wrapper for DOSBOX (DOS games specifically) called:
DG-Voodoo...

...that one IS FREE - you are correct in saying that GLiDOS is commercial though.

As for the 'Special' DOSBox build...

HERE for infos and screenies...

HERE for a guide and the files you need, but you need to be a member:

http://erikggdog.forumup.be/post-57-erikggdog.html

That should get you started...Google for the rest!

(Note: apparently the latest CVS does not require that you copy GLIDE2X.OVL into the folder of the DOS game)
