Post by VDX on 08.04.05 at 00:16:31
Ok, so i have till friday to decide on some ram which is 5ns, everything else is the same so its just a speed choice, not really all that cheap but its 80 pieces at 300.00 which is cheap ive been told for this part, the only thing is its refurb with a 30 warranty, its all ive been able to find that anyone will sell to me, any idea's? im really thinking about it because my search has gotten me nothing else, thing is refurb, hmm, it seems like ill be taking a chance but what other choice is there. has anyone else found anyone that will sell to us at all?

Yes gamma, i want to get a 6000 but im content with a 5500 with 5ns ram, of course it looks like i can get the ram but who will put it on is another question, ive had 2 5500's running stable at 190 and 195 and for testing on mad onion 2001se i had one at 200 with the 6ns, im guessing 210 maybe 220 with 5ns, ive been forever getting a 3dfx case mod together and my parts are rolling in and id like more than off the shelf for the 3dfx card,i was hoping that 5000 4x card i got would be it but it didnt seem to care for 4x,  now there was a rework link here before but i couldnt access cause my provider is blocked so im thinking there is some place i could go, do you know of anyone and what do you think about this whole thing as working?, the ram is identical except for faster

$hit, i give up, company that was selling me the ram said it was 300.00(there minimum order) for 80 pieces of the 5ns ram which was refurbished and not new to boot, i was willing to take the chance seeing as no one else will sell such a small amount to me, so that was thursday, now today i told him im ready to buy it and he says that is 756.00, im like wtf, 9.00 each for used ram, he says its 27.00 for new, of course i told him NO....why does this have to be so hard, how can it jump up 456.00 in 4 days. i give up for now.

There is no reason for RAM to jump like that. I would continue your search. He can't be the only game in town (globally speaking).

He was dying to sell it to me on friday for 300.00 but he called me late and  i said i  would get back to him, when i called back he was gone, then on monday it went way up like friday never happened, i think he was dicking me around knowing how hard it is to get a small amount, im thinking of just robbing it off a g4 mx 420, you can get the same ram at 64mb but 5ns or go for the 128mb, not sure what speed you can get that at. sorta interesting is i found another rework place that does single jobs too, also i found rework kit for 125.00, not that i have any idea how it works even after reading it, lol

Uhm, a little advice on that Geforce memory thing;

The VSA-100 has a 128bit memorybus which is used by 4 chips. That means each chip has 32bit available.

A 32MB Geforce would need to have a 64bit bus and only 2 memorychips. A 64MB Geforce would need to have a 128bit bus and only 4 chips. And a 128MB Geforce would need a 256bit bus and 8 chips, but this one doesn't exist :P

well a Geforce FX 5900 ULTRA/ FX 5950 ULTRA and a GeForce 6800 GO/GT and Ultra have 256MB in 8 chip config or is this a bad comparison of the idea?

If I'm mixed up please let me know  :-X
