Title: Voodoo 2 SLI + TNT2 Ultra - any sense?
Post by Maf on 26.04.11 at 14:43:14
Hello guys,
is there actually any reason to mix v2 sli and tnt2 ultra in one machine? tnt2ultra should be supperior to v2sli and furthermore it provides 2d support. Are there any specific games working both with glide and d3d/opengl where v2sli will be faster/better quality? Q2/3, Unreal or UT99 maybe? These are my main concern. I'm waiting for your opinions  :)

the only reason I can think of to combine V2 SLI with a TnT2 Ultra, is image quality.

TnT may be faster, but Glide has far better image quality then D3D at the time.
A week or so ago, I installed the rig in my signature, and installed Final Final Fantasy 7 on windows98, and also UT99, Carmageddon2 and Diablo2.

Now, Diablo2, Carma2 and UT99 all support Glide and all look better on my V2 SLI then on the Geforce2 Pro. It even looks better then when I play it on my newest machine, which has a 4890 Toxic. :)

And as for Final Fantasy, it runs on D3D, but that also looks a lot better on the Voodoo2 SLI then the Geforce2 Pro.

If you want I can make screenshots and post, but Voodoo2 is way better image quality then TnT2

Hell yeah, I'd really appreciate it if I could see an actual difference :)

Unreal on glide looks much better on V2. NFS 5 (Porsche 2000) also looks much better (colors are much better). In Q3 TNT2 looks way better than V2 (in 32 bit), but it might be too slow (you can play it ok up to 800x600, 1024x768x32 bit on TNT2 in Q3 is  sloooooooooooooooooooow)

Anyway, most of those games (UT, Q3, etc) can be played on a modern machine (in full hd, aniso at max, AA at max, etc) and they will look MUCH better and will also have good fps.

I would use that machine only for retro games that runs only on Windows 98 or DOS.

All I can suggest is PrintScreen key / ingame key / FRAPS.
Making screenshots with Glide is problematic, isn't it?

HyperSnap sounds like a solution.

"Snags also those difficult-to-grab screens from DirectX™ and Glide™ games."
