That first bidders ID looks a lot like G1nx's.

Hi Tim,

Interesting card and I was looking at that auction as I came across on IT news sites but that was definitely not me bidding on it.
Not really worth the price anyway you look at it and probably the winner will not pay for it.
In any case it's surprising to see how much some people want to have the latest bit of tech with just a few days before official launch of the production model.

Cheers,
G1nX

Frankly it makes me a bit sick that people would waste that amount of cash on something that's going to be outdated in a year... >:(

collecting is not about logic, it's about doing things that make you feel good. if the purchase is going to make him happy, and he has $96 000 to burn, I see no reason why he shouldn't go ahead and buy it.

True, some people have millions of dollars worth of car collection, or a private jet. Some people just have enough money and want to spend it on things they enjoy. :)

it's much worse to have money and nothing you can buy to make yourself happy.

It might not necessarily have been individuals bidding on that card. It could have been a bidding war between AMD, Intel and Nvidia ;D

Most rich people buy expensive stuff as an investment, they have no affinity with the actual item. Because if you don't spend your money, you have to pay a buttload of taxes on it.
