Title: Does Quantum3D still use GPU's from other vendors?
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 24.05.06 at 21:14:19
Hello all

I thought I might start something totally different, a Quantum3D topic, heh okay don't have any Q3D cards yet, might one day, but that ain't the case this time ;)

Does Quantum3D still use GPUs from other Vendors like they used 3dfx GPU's in thier Raven/Ventana, AALchemy lines?

What do they use now? nVidia, ATi, Matrox, SGI chips? Or do they make thier own type of GPU's?

ah okay, well they use the nVidia NV40 aka GeForce 6800/QuadroFX 4000 GPU for thier upgraded AALchemy systems:

"The upgrade brings the power of NVIDIA® NV40 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) technology to AAlchemy SX, TX and QX PC-IGs via technology insertion and increases the performance of the AAlchemy PC-IG systems by up to 500% in many important areas including pixel fill rate, triangle rate and texture memory-all while preserving the full scene anti-aliasing image quality that is the hallmark of AAlchemy systems."

got that info from here:
http://www.quantum3d.com/press/2004/07-14-04_AAlchemyUpgrade.htm

so it's nVidia all the way now, the 3dfx based AALchemy 8264 & 8464 system's page is still listed only they aren't available anymore :(

still good to see that Quantum3D still has the info page of thier 3dfx based rigs :)

The Ventana 8130 AGP consists of a merchant NVIDIA NV40 AGP graphics board and Quantum3D's patented nVSync™ module

sounds pretty neat, I only wonder what it looks like hehe .

on this urls some nice 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 & Voodoo5 5500 + 6000 info :D
http://www.quantum3d.com/press/htmlarchive/voodoo5.htm

" The Voodoo5 family includes the 4500, 5500 and 6000 models. They provide the complete benefits of VSA-100's scalability, full-scene anti-aliasing, 32-bit per pixel rendering, high-resolution support, T-Buffer digital cinematic effects, and high-quality texture compression (DXTC and FXT1) capabilities. The Voodoo5 5500 and 6000 boards include multiple 3dfx VSA-100 which are used to enhance fill rate performance via Scan Line Interleaving (SLI) or to dramatically improve image quality via full-scene, sub-pixel anti-aliasing and T-buffer digital cinematic effects for enhanced visual realism without performance penalties. The Voodoo5 4500 includes a single VSA-100 chip with 32MB of SDRAM. The Voodoo5 5500 and 6000 offers two or four VSA-100 chips per board, respectively with combined frame buffer sizes of 32MB to 128MB (SDRAM), respectively. Complete information on the Voodoo5 product family is available at www.3dfx.com."
