Voodoo2 identity problem
04.04.05 at 03:06:52

I've  heard many people saying that voodoo2 is a display adapter and other people saying that voodoo2 is
a video accelerator.
So wich is it ? Is it  the one or the other .
And regardless of  the video card type, could the voodoo2 r drivers recognize the voodoo2 video card type or for this  purpose there are dedicated applications ?

You can even use a Voodoo 2 as standalone 2D graphic card if you have the right drivers (at least under linux).

I have voodoo2 video card and win xp op system with
directx 8.1
I used a  driver for winxp (designed for winxp )  that recognize my voodoo2 as a display adapter. In  the Directx 8.1 Tab under ,Display 2  tab,  the  texture AGP
acceleration is not possible to be enabled.A message error says that the AGP Texture Acceleration is not
supported
.Also the same problem with the Direct 3D
and of course no ability to play any game.

I uninstalled this driver and replace  it with a glide/OpenGl driver (an original 3Dfx driver designed for win2000).With this driver my system tells me that
I have voodoo2 3D Accelerator and the voodoo2 tab is prezent under Display Settings Panel ,and labeled
3dfx V2-1000

In the "System Info"  window  ,under the voodoo2 properties tab ,I see the followings:

3dfx Hardware Profile:

Scan Interleave:Not Detected
FBI Revision:4
Frame Buffer Memory:4 MB
Texture Mapping Unit(s):2

3dfx Software Profile:
TMU Revision:4
Total Texture Memory:8 MB

FxMemMap VxD Version:Not Present
WinGlide 2.x Driver Version:2.56.00.0459

In conclusion:is there a full opengl+glide +d3d driver
made by 3dfx for win2000 ?
Should I search for a better  driver or this driver is as good as it gets right now

1. The default Voodoo 2 drivers (supplied with WinXP) do not support 3D acceleration - as MS dropped support for 3Dfx when the company went belly-up. Tongue

2.Most of the best drivers for the V2 are "third party" such as the brilliant "FastVoodoo" series. Grin

And very few (if ANY!) have D3D support in Windows XP. Cry

Your best bet is to use a OpenGL / GLiDE driver for your V2 card and a NEW graphics card for D3D (such as a Geforce or Radeon) Wink

That's all folks! 8)

Actually if you read the documents it has something to do with the way the kernel handles video.

My WinXp version (5.1 build 2600) doesn't include  the
voodoo2 default drivers.First time my syetm told me that
a have un unknown multimedia adapter.
After I installed the third party drivers the system recon
as voodoo2 .
