Title: I need a favor from a fellow UK member
Post by Maverick-DBZ- on 31.08.04 at 06:25:07
Maybe Falconfly or one of you UK guys on the forum can help me out here. I found a few 3dfx auctions on ebay UK were the seller will only ship to the UK. :-/

I need a trusted person to win a few auctions for me and ship them for me to the US. I will repay the person with paypal plus postage of what it would cost to ship to me. :)

A few auctions end in about less than 8 hours. Is anyone willing to help me out?

Here are the auctions I'm want to win.

Well it's no real big deal but I would have really liked that Velocity 100. I guess I'll just play the waiting game and hope one pops up on ebay USA. ;)

*hint*

International money orders/normal banking transfers should be possible from any bank.

(heck, even my online banking does that; and if your local bank takes too much overhead, just friendly ask another one with less overhead to do it. I often found they do it even if you're not one of their regular customers)

And if the overhead puts of off, wait until what shipping from Germany to the US (for example) costs *g*
(German Postal services are expensive, a 1kg (~2 lbs) medium sized parcel costs me 29 Euro to ship overseas)

IF you're still interested, and since those Cards usually go for a bargain there, I can do it (for the 2 German Auctions).
But remember, Triangle shipping will result in an effective end price of approx. 50-60$ for those 2 Cards. Sure you wanna do that ?

@Nitrox - Sorry, just logged on.  I could have helped if I was here a little earlier! I too, watched both of those cards go for a steal (the reason I did not intervene is because I have them both fully retail boxed ;)).

I'm in the UK Nitrox, and I regularly buy cards from places like Germany, Netherlands, France and Italy.  I have sent CASH on many occasions (as a lot of Europeans tend not to use electronic payment services such as PayPal and Nochex).  Despite what ebay tell you, sending cash is SAFE.  If you still feel a little wary, send the cash in an envelope that has postal insurance.

I regularly find a lot of Americans won't let me pay by PayPal and want Western Union instead (which I hate! >:()

Don't feel threatened by sending cash to Europeans. 99.9% of us (especially the Germans) are very honest and trustworthy. :)

Oh, and @Nitrox -

Notice how FalconFly did not offer to help you out on the 3rd auction (the Velocity 100)?  This is because he KNOWS he doesn't have to. ;)

FalconFly has this card, but not in it's original box and accessories.  The last time he went for this item (which was also on Ebay UK, which was fully retailed box and in perfect condition) I pipped him to the post and snatched it from under his nose!  ;D

I feel FalconFly will not be as forgiving this time! Prepare to empty your wallet if you fancy a challenge, Nitrox!  ;)
There is no doubt FalconFly will be wanting to add this one to his collection, second time round!  ;)   :P

Sorry, but due to your Post I suddenly lost interest in the Card.
Thanks for blowing this Auction for me. It's all yours now (and I do hope you really want it).

PS.
I really can't use anyone ruining potential Auctions by offering detailled analysis of my recent purchases and failures ::)

What's next ? ...see Statistics about my expected maximum bids for individual categories of Items, skyrocketing prices for any Item I could intend to aquire off Ebay ?

Thats ok guys no biggie. :)

I do have another question though, what is the best way to send packages from the UK to the US besides using Fedex or UPS? Is it Royal Mail insured?

For me in the states it's Prority Mail.

Gosh janskjaer, that wasnt very nice thing to do/say. Seems to me even "IF" you and falconfly may of had a past problem, you still shouldnt have said details to a past auction that involved the two of you..Maybe he doesnt want others to know his auction name...Ive often wondered myself if I would act differently towards those I know, as opposed to those whom to me are incognito in cyberspace....Ive read your post 9 times to try and see the use of the post as a whole...I see none...I see a devisive, competitive, jealous-like post at best...Sorry, but I am a straight shooter...Don't care to hurt your feelings or anyone elses here, but surely makes me want to not share my ebay name at all now.

Oi mate, be CAREFUL what you post! :o

It's just not proper to post info on other forum members! ::)

Even if it is just eBay - be careful in the future... :P

Sorry FalconFly dude!  :(

I didn't mean any harm by my comment as it was meant to be a bit of fun!  It wasn't even meant to be a joke to, or about anyone! I do apologise if I caused any offence as this was totally unintentional!  :(

If anything, it was merely a point to others that they may as well not even bother bidding as we all know you and Patience have the cash to buy anything your heart desires.  It's hard to go unnoticed, after the infamous collections you have bought in the past, and how much you have paid for them, to know that people cannot compete with that kind of funding.

I obviously did not see the consequences my post would have on your strategic way of bidding.

However, I will say that, it's not hard for people to know what cards you have, and what you DON'T have (e.g the 3dfx collection thread we regularly update with our collections).
It just takes a little strategic thinking to think that someone may go after that card, because they don't have it.  Therefore that person would already be prepared and know who may have a bid on it, regardless of whether my post existed or not.

IMHO, and what I am trying to say is, I think many experienced 3dfx ebayers, who have known you (and your collection) for a while, would have probably known you may have a bid on this card, even without me saying so in my post.

Once again, I am sorry if this screwed up your interest on this item, and many apologies for any inconvenience caused.  It was unintentional and I meant no harm!

And @Hammer & Everyone Else - You are all blowing this WAY out of proportion!!! :( This had no  "devisive, competitive, jealous-like" meaning behind it WHATSOEVER! What have I got to be jealous of?? I already own this card! ::)  This has nothing to do with what my post said in any way.  So, Hammer, I suggest you hold fire with your posts before you have heard both sides of the story.  Just a word of advice for in the future. :)

I mean, if you are going to take it like this, and flame everyone to relating to your ebay bidding history, there are many other users that should feel your anger also.

Example:  http://www.falconfly-central.de/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general;action=display;num=1093974418
Does this mean Chosen_One should be flamed, just because he related to FalconFly's biddding past, in that he bidded $1 more over a T-Shirt?

Come on guys, honestly, I never say anything to rub anyone the wrong way (except ONE user, when he starts something off!) and never have in the past, so why would I? Seriously, you're going about this the wrong way!

Anyway! What does it matter!?!?  Gary bought the item in the end anyway (should I be mentioning this, or am I gonna get burned for this also? ::))  So I'm sure he'll be doing a deal with you, FalconFly, and that you can buy it off of him (seeing as he already has one in his collection! :))!  Maybe that's why he bought it!  Ask him! :)

I know, that deal costs me an SB50-4220 though (although to be fair, I'd have traded one of those for a boxed Velocity 100 anyway)

There are a number of problems with such a post :

- being a former (successful) competitor, you know my previous bidding habit
- you know how long I've been looking for one
- you know the region of my potential max. bid

That just makes you a different person to post such details, than "someone just guessing".

It's bad enough when you have to contact a seller in advance, in order to ask him for non-standard/extended shipping and cooperation. Thus, he can easily look up your Profile and see how much money was spent on rare Cards already. And to make things worse, he will know I am an Collector and can easily find this Forum (many already did in the Past).

Having potential sellers read "hey! Listen up everybody! I know FalconFly is going to toss a hell lot of money at this one because : " is.... ehm... quite undesireable, is an invitation to drive the price up, and also invites those Individuals that would give an arm and a leg to see my bleed just once ::)

When that happens, I think you understand I'm forced to abandon the Auction of interest for good due to the issues involved.
Nothing is worse than being a "glassy User", in Private it costs privacy, on EBay it'll cost you tons of money instead.

And being not personally involved in the Auction, you had no reason (whatsoever) to get yourself involved. Pretty expensive Joke it became for me (considering I could have plain gotten the Velocity off EBay).

FalconFly, you pretty much answered my point by saying how easy it is for people to already see how interested you are in 3dfx items, just by your reputation and checking your ebay history.

How many times have people discussed items you have won on ebay? Lots of times.  People then visit the URLs to those items won by yourself, click on your username, see all your history, and therefore know how much you are willing to spend on certain items, and what you may be after.  It's done by a matter of cross-referencing, and it is very EASY for people to know.

Like I said, I can understand that my post may have blown your cover on you bidding for this item, for which I have already apologised.  I did not realise that's all.  It's just that some of us share the auction URLs of items we are interested in and going to bid on.

For the reasons you have given (due to your high publicity in the 3dfx area, and you Patience) I can totally understand your reasons for a different approach.

Regarding this being an "expensive joke", I already announced that there was no joke and I never intended for there to be one, at you or anyone else.

I don't want to get into a debate about it.  I'll just say I won't bring up the subject again.

Again, apologies for inconveniences caused.

Well, I hope you guys and gals have straightened all of this out... :P

It's a 'tricky' topic...but like my mate @Janskjaer said, he didn't mean to offend, so let's just keep this particular skeleton locked firmly in the 3Dfx closet... ::)

PEACE! 8)

Unlucky, but no sweat nonetheless :)

Cheers guys  :), I'm glad you understand!

Yep! Peace dude's (and dudets)!

@paulpsomiadis  - Paul, seriously, where can I get one of those 3dfx closets??  I want one!  :D  Hehe! No, but that would be cool!  Somewhere to have all your cards on show with about 2 or 3 3dfx rigs in there, running Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, and GLQuake!  ;D  NICE!
Obviously, the walls would have to be decorated in those 3dfx promo posters, and the rare Diamond Monster 3D2 posters! We could also have the 3dfx flags covering a wall each!  ;D

Seriously though, I was thinking of buying one of those Rolling Stones neon lights that says 'Voodoo Lounge' and having it light up a room where I will have my cards on display!   :)  That would be awesome!  :D

Very RARE!

O.K. everyone, it's MOD suggestion time! ;)

(YES, I'm aware this IS off topic - but I had a brainstorm!) ;D

@Janskjaer gave me a neat idea... ;)

You said a 3Dfx closet - but we're NOT satisfied with just a standard cupboard, OH NO! ::)

How about this... :o

INGREDIENTS ;)

A Chrome cabinet for office supplies
Perspex - lots of it and rubber sealant
Some heavy duty cutting tools
LOTS and LOTS of spare time!
Various computer parts...

1. Take your chrome cabinet and cut two LARGE rectangular holes in the front of each door.
2. Cut two large sheets of perspex to size.
3. Cut rubber sealant to size and slot perspex into place in doors.
4. Add FOUR / SIX neon blue lights (either two on a shelf or four on a shelf)
5. Drill holes on the top shelf for TWO server boards.
6. Screw the boards (and respective PSU's) onto the shelves.
7. Add various computer parts (including a V5500 in each server board)
8. Add a small network crosslead between boards.
9. On a nearby desk place TWO monitors, keyboards and mice - connect each to it's respective mainboard.
10. Power up each mainboard and close the cabinet.
11. Play a furious UT deathmach for SEVERAL hours.

WOOHOO! :o ;D 8)

@paulpsomiadis  - Tis a cool idea matey!  ;D  The type of materials you have in mind sound really neat and may do the job!  But I reckon some of them would prove costly!  :(  I know that would rule me out from making this room conversion.

How would we solve this?  Well I have an even better idea!  Paul, I suggest we get in touch with Carol Smilie and get her to to make us a 3dfx room on her show Changing Rooms!  We get a quality 3dfx studio, and for FREE!  ;D  RESULT!

Yah, only problem is that the BBC are about as cooperative as an Irish goat with a bad temper... :o

They'd probably tell us to "F**K off!" or something! ::)

ROFL! ;D

Hehe!  ;D  Yeah true!  :)

Lets get in touch with Channel 5.  They have lower standards and will usually accept anything that will get them more than 5 viewers watching the program at the same time! LOL!  ;)
