Title: Strange Voodoo3 AGP with SGRAM... Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 29.07.04 at 21:47:56
Hello, today I was google'n around and I came accros this strange Voodoo3 AGP with SGRAM:
Can anybody explain what type it is. Were there also Voodoo3 2000 & 3000 AGP's wth SGRAM as the PCI versions are? What I do remember is that there is a Voodoo3 2000 AGP with SGRAM But I can't find a pc of it anymore. Okay I came across this one on ebay: Looks like a Voodoo3 2000 AGP with SGRAM: hier is the main link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40157&item=5112390067&rd=1 Friendly Regards, Obi-Wan Kenobi. |

The top one is a picture of one of the 10 or 20 Beta boards 3dfx sent out to review sites late feb/march'99
You can see other boards pictured in Tom's Hardware and Sharkys reviews. The bottom one just looks like an early V3 board with a heatsink. |

IMHO, both images show an identical Card, someone needs glasses ;)
Nice find there, looks you got one of the rare, early designs there. |

Open the bottom one in photoshop and crank the gamma, it doesn't have a fan. |

I know, but the Fan/Cooling is usually optional (and always tended to vary over time).
The PCB is what makes the Card special, and this is the early Voodoo3 PCB, regardless of actual Cooler used. |

You may be right. It seems to have connections for TV out, DVI and something else. |

But if you look closer, they both have that extraordinary 'Voodoo 3' logo, which was used in the early stages of Voodoo3 dev. And it also has the OLD 3dfx logo!
If I'm not mistaken, the retail boards had that removed and have the NEW 3dfx logo! I would imagine this also applies to compaq boards as the boards were released to Compaq and Gateway, at the same time the retail boards got distributed to customers. Would that be right? I would go with the card being an early beta board myself. |
