Title: voodoo1 on voodoo3 + Wickedgl for k6-2 Post by psycho47 on 06.08.03 at 23:20:45
is there a way(driver, some software or what),how to emulate a voodoo1 on voodoo3? Some very old glide games (Incubation) dont recognize voodoo3 as 3dfx card so i need to cheat them so they will "think" there is a voodoo1 instead of voodoo3.Is this possible?
and something simplier:AMD K6-2 333 with voodoo3,what is better for halflife:minigl 1.47 or wicked 3d 2.31 |

There are options in the 3dfx Tools to limit the Texture Memory to 2MB, and some Drivers contain the "Emulate Rush" Option as well.
These might do the trick under Windows. I'm not sure right now which SSTH3 Settings are set by these parameters, but normally those could be set in the Autoexec.bat as well, to achieve the same effect under MS-DOS. Otherwise, it is possible that the Game looks for a specific Filename not found anymore with Voodoo3 Drivers. Copying the Glide .dll into the Game directory and renaming it appropriately might work as well (sometimes does, sometimes doesn't though) WickedGL is known to work extremely well for the HalfLife-Engine, so I reckon it will result in the highest performance. |

Tried all of mentioned, didn't work, error message says no voodoo card installed what is obviously not true.
I think there is some difference between Voodoo1(and voodoo2) glide2x.dll and the voodoo3 glide2x.dll that is causing the problem-seems like something is in v1 dll that is mising in v3 dll.I tried to add voodoo 2 glide2x.dll to games directory but error message appiered saying there is no voodoo 2 installed(what is obviously tue).I have no idea what to do next. :-/ |

Hmpf...
I used to play Incubation alot (cool Game!), but I think it was with a Voodoo2 SLI Rig at that time. I wonder if a very old Voodoo3 Driver could do the trick ? (after all, it has the oldest Glide possible for the Card). The Game does run under Windows, correct ? I'm not sure but it might be worth looking into the Game Directory for a Setup file. Might be possible to manually tweak the Game that way, but it's a far shot. Making a copy of the 3dfx OpenGL ICD, and renaming it for use 'might' work as well (it would be slower, but I remember replacing Glide with the 3dfxogl.dll used to work on some occasions) |

Glide 2 and 3 are not compatible with glide 1. Glide 1 consists of 2 DLL's (GLIDE.DLL and SST1INIT.DLL). To run glide 1 applications that require these two DLL's on a VoodooČ you need to setup the variables from the v2auto.inf from the latest VoodooČ driver and restart windows. The Voodoo1 and VoodooČ are both addon boards and the way to program them seems much different to banshee/v3/vsa's. As you can see in the name of the second dll, sst1 was the internal name for the Voodoo1, it is Glide 1 for Voodoo1. The VoodooČ was compatible enough to the Voodoo1 that the Voodoo1 glide.dll still worked. You have to think of Glide as a driver. The glide2x.dll file from the VoodooČ driver is different from the Banshee/V3/VSA driver. So the Problem is that Glide 1 (GLIDE.DLL and SST1INIT) was never ported to the later Voodoo's.
But for some apps it is a good idea to have these two dll's in the systemdir. POD for example only installs the softwaremode version and their worse looking tracks if these DLL's are not found. Of course you can't play the 3dfx Version with these dll's but now you can update the game to the latest 3dfx Version. And this Updated POD runs on GLIDE 2. Regards, Andreas P.S. Does anybody knows if there is an update for PANDEMONIUM. Also this game requires GLIDE 1 for 3D support and thus refuses to run on my V3 (except softwaremode) |

Hmmm, tried some thigs, found some modified files at http://scayra.free.fr/incubation/index.html ,modified eng3dfx.dll for incubation and modified glide2x.dll ,INCUBATION works now with minor glitches (and a crashing to desktop when exiting...hit alt+F4 in the menu to avoid this.),I found out that the modified dlls are NEW(!!!) glide drivers found for example in amigamerlin 2.9 third party drivers.Any workaround for those glitches? :P

Running a batch file to set environment variables works for some Voodoo Graphics games when running them on Voodoo2s. Try creating a batch file containing the following and running it before you run the game -
set SST_GRXCLK=90 set SST_FT_CLK_DEL=0x4 set SST_TF0_CLK_DEL=0x6 set SST_TF1_CLK_DEL=0x6 set SST_VIN_CLKDEL=0x1 set SST_VOUT_CLKDEL=0x0 set SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2 |

sorry but how do you exactly create this batch file - first time I heard about it...
