As part of an intimidation trick to the enemy, they could paint the 'Voodoo Eyes' series on the front of the tanks to really sh*t 'em up!  Grin

...

Never thought I would own a 3dfx card longer then a V5-6000.

And yes the cards have 125 mhz ram chips, all four tested out as functioning!

Now I just need to work on the cabling and hope the riser cards are good!

I wouldn't even attempt to get a case for them.  I would just have an "open air" system for those.

Tonights the night- I have NT4 setup, the machine is up and running and I'm putting the brick back together.

I don't think there is anything I will see with the I/O connector missing but at least I can try and might get a good screenshot of the display properties.

Well till I get an I/O connector that could be a problem, but I'm working on it.

Have regular Quake running under NT, had to download service pack 6 last night and installing it this morning... after that is done I pop Mercury in.

Well now... hmmm.

The brick installs with no problems and everything seems to work but when you hit the test glide button in the control panel the test program seems to hang. I don't expect to see anything of course (no I/O connector) but I should be able to hit "esc" and get the driver control panel back. For the gamma test that does work.. with a slight delay.

Possible causes-

1) The drivers indicate service pack 4 are required, I installed service pack 6a (the latest) maybe an issue, maybe not.

2) Motherboard isn't correct- The drivers indicate an intel BX motherboard should be fine but LogicalMadness posted he could not get his working in anything but a intel GX.

3) Power supply doesn't have enough balls- The best I had handy was a very high quaility 300 watt ATX unit from PC power and cooling I used years ago with my 1.0 ghz Athlon system. A 400 watt was mentioned as being a good idea.

I may have to 'jack the 550 watt unit from my 2.8 ghz machine for further testing Wink

So.. there is no errors when the control panel comes up and the cards have been individually tested ok already so that is a good sign.. I think the next course of action is to find an I/O connector and get a burly power supply and try again. I could try reloading NT4 and just install SP4 but I don't think SP6a is the issue but won't write it off either!

That's just awesome Grin

One question though. What is this I/O connector your missing? Could you show us a screenshot of it? Some of us (me) haven't really seen a Merc in real life.

Once Mercury is assembled the connectors on the backplates of the cards do nothing. Everything is routed through the Mercury module at the top of the cards.

From there there is a connection for a multipin ribbon cable that runs to a case mounted output connector *OR* a backplate that mounts in a slot like an old printer header with output connections.

It looks like a pretty simple setup with no circuits on the I/O pcb, just a connection point that swaps over to the connections needed. I have contacted a few people with mercury setups inquiring about a spare I/O for sale or loan so I can make my own.

So the missing I/O connector/cable, (it is a cable right?) will plug into that connector that looks like a Joystick connector? If so, how many pin cable is needed? It's not the X-24 medusa cable is it?

Man It looks like your getting ready for some serious Quake action!!
