Title: Midnight Club 2 problems w/dx9 Post by amp_man on 17.09.03 at 04:40:41
Whenever I run Midnight Club 2 on my pc, which is using Windows XP on an Athlon XP 1800+ with 768mb of RAM and a Voodoo 5 5500 with Amigamerlin 3.0 drivers, the game crashes when it tries to create cars in the car selection in the menu or when it attempts to load a race. I have tried many of the options in 3d-analyze without any luck, but am open to specific configurations. Here are the system requirements from the game:

I have already tried many fixes offered by members of other forums, and have come here in hopes that someone has a specific fix for this game. Also, lecram25, I don't need any of your "help" unless you have something to say other than what you've said on other boards, and I will leave it at that. |

No need to come over here and attack me... FalconFly, wanna check if this is another one of Black_Out's clones? i.e. if this is BlacK_Out under a different user name? EDIT: added a quote |

Well, whatever the actual Username is, since he stated he did not want a response from you, I'd have to ask you to follow his request in this case.
You might feel urged to do otherwise, but (with the peace of Forum in mind), just don't. (I know the Forum is too small to completely stay away from everybody, but if requested [for whatever reason] it should be possible) The actual Posting/Question itself is legitimate, so I cannot see anything wrong with it. ----------- Off-Topic PS. One (or both) of you definitely has severe Paranoia :P Please try to keep things 'normal' here... I keep seeing both of you circling around each other like a Twin Star system in several Forums, this is definitely not normal. Solve such issues via EMail or PM, and not in public (confuses the sh*t out of people) General position about creating multiple Users for one person : As soon as such is confirmed in any case (unless specifically requested & coordinated with us by the User), all new "clones" will be erased from the Forum without prior Notice, since there should be no reason to 'hide' in here, or demonstrate 'split personalities' ;) |

As I have said before, I am not a clone of anyone, I am another person altogether, and I will not respond to any further replys posted by Lecram to avoid the buildup of useless crap that we have created on 3dfxzone.it. i hope you can understand that im not looking to pick a fight, just get some help with a game

I don't have the Game, but looking at the minimum specs, here are my thoughts :
- GeForce2 or Radeon 8500 Not only will it require 3D Analyzer to take over the needed T&L Part (you could try Geometry Assist in the Driver, but this is still buggy), the Radeon 8500 part is interesting. If it was only about T&L, a Radeon 7500 should do perfectly fine (?) A Radeon 7500 has more capabilities than the min. GeForce2, so this is quite odd... With such new Games, all you could do is ask in the 3D Analyzer Forum for other User's experiences, or if Thomas might think this could be solved... I don't know if 3DA support got deeper into DirectX9, as the original Releases aimed at DirectX8 originally (it actually did not work with DX7 Games, as stated in the ReadMe back then, for example). |

I've aleady tried every option in 3d analyze. I'm hoping that someone has gotten the game to run and has specific combo of drivers and 3d analyze options, or maybe some patch that they found. I don't have the time to invest in getting this game to run, and I don't have the money to buy a new Radeon. Basically, I'm tryng to use the old V5 until I can build a new system, but that isn't happening any time soon. So can anybody help?

do u mean the config.ini for the game or for my system? fedaykin over at 3dfxzone.it already modified the configuration files (which is actually options.ini, there is no config.ini) and turned off all the advanced features, but the game didn't really offer much for options. I also have the config_xx.ini files that 3d analyze created, but I don't know if that would do you any good.

amp_man is someone else not me -- I did change my ID once on another forum, to the one I use now -- but this is not my ID and lecram found out....I'll skip the elongated story and say he thought I made another ID, but I didn't amp_man is not me --- honest to god.
But back to the topic....as you were wrote on 17.09.03 at 12:49:29:

Well...
I will then take it, that it is accidental, that "you two" come from roughly the *cough* same Spot of this planet... ::) |

Falconfly, there should be no surprise to find out this. The bad part is that sometimes people are hating eachother, and punching so much heavy words, even if they never saw eachother in reality. It is one of the effects of the so-called "Internet culture an comunication", and sincerely it has slightly more bad effects than good one, at least regarding to how easy you can believe you have a friend or an enemy...

While I don't care to get into the philisophical/psychological/emotional/tree hugger reasons why this happens its simple as this -- this lecram guy kept getting into it with us -- taking us to the mat every da*n single time we asked as question or replied ourselves.
I even changed my ID to shake him off -- nope he found out it was me and kept up being a monkey on my back. *Fact* Amp_man is not me black_out is not amp_man -- that is rumor. Until this point I have not had a problem with anyone else. There's always one in every crowd -- who cares about hate/love in cyberspace and how it deals with culture -- it's happens, unfortunatley. So *cough* as you may -- but that's the truth. |

So despite there being several threads on this accross god knows how many 3dfx boards is anyone coming close to solving it? Or has this childish argument taken over?
If you are being harrassed by a 'difficult' user on a message board you should simply ignore that user completely. Disregard their posts entireley. It's as simple as that. If this were happening on VF you'd all be banned by now. I'd advise you to bury the hatchet and forget this from now as you don't actually know one another as boiu andrei has said. amp_man: To get this issue solved quickly I'd advise you to summarise all that has been tried so far as most of your topics are so broken up an unintelligable no one will be too willing to take the time to look at them. If you post it up on this forum, and stick with it, it will be solved as the people here definately have the know how. |

Okay, getting back on topic, here's a list of everything I have tried so far, in summary:
3d analyze options I've used: Nearly all, but mainly "force SW TnL","emulate HW TnL caps","emulate other DX8.1 caps","emulate max sim. textures","emulate cube maps","Emulate DXT features", and "disable two-sided stencil". I really don't know much about this, these options just sounded like stuff that might help. Also, as I said before, Fedaykin kindly removed the advanced rendering features from the options.ini file, as there is no config.ini file in the game directory or any subdirectory (and the system one is config.sys, I was kinda tired when I wrote that post). I also emailed Rockstar North, the game's creator, and the tech support guy there said that if there was a Dx8.1 or OpenGL compatibility mode, he wasn't informed of it. Beta, I'm sorry that this topic is on so many 3dfx forums (three to be exact), but I just want to try and get in touch with as many people as have possibly gotten this game running (or can get it to run) as I can. And lecram, thanks for the link to the demo, here's another if that's dead, as you said (I can't even read the page, so I don't want to go clicking buttons that go god-knows-where) http://www.rockstargames.com/midnightclub2/downloads.html. The demo is 171mb, so 56k might take a little while. And by the way, that little rumor about Black_Out and I being the same person was started by an unnamed user *cough*lecram*cough*, I have absolutely no idea where he/she got the idea from, except that Black_Out and I shared the same opinion on a topic. I assure you again, Black_Out and I are not the same person, and how do you know where black_out is from? I believe that is everything, if I have left anything important out, please let me know |

I placed "edit: dead link" because the first one I put was dead, hence the edit part. To download the file, just hover your cursor over the big buttons near the bottom, and look at your task bar...

I have given up, it appears that there is no feasable way to make this game work with this card, at least as far as I have found, with the aid of many kind individuals accross several 3dfx forums. I have given in and ordered a new (ATI, no nvidia crap) video card. You may continue to try to fix this problem, just realize that at the moment there is no need for your efforts, although one may arise in the future.
