Title: All you experts please help.
Post by will on 21.01.06 at 07:05:25
hey guys.
this is a lvely 3dfx website by the way.

i have just formatted my computer and my graphics are horrible. My graphics were fine before i formatted the computer but i can't remember what i downloaded. In addition, even plain text looks awfully weird. my system consists of a voodoo 5 5500 with 750mhz plus 128mb of ram. what drivers should i download from here?

and I also would love to play cs but my choke, loss and lag is horrible. i have adsl btw (so it is not the internet). is there anything you guys can do about that? like any updates?

thanks goes out  to anyone who took the time to read this msg.

Well your motherboard should have came with a utility disk that has the Chipset drivers on there along with DirectX 8 or better. If you don't have that, pop the case on the machine and Asus generally has the model numbers in between the PCI slots (the white slots on most of the older boards) and look up drivers on Asus's website for all drivers pertaining to it. Should be Sound (if on board), network, chipset and posiably modem if your using it.
With 98SE this is how I normally ran my installs. Install OS, install network card, and VIA 4-1's, run Windows updates, install DX8 (only playing old games on it) and then Vid drivers. Running a V5 5500 agp using Amega Merlins 2.9 drivers and haven't had a problem yet.

but i have found the cd and installed my 4in1 chipset stuff and installed amega merlin 2.9 drivers. is there anything more i can do?
ty guys! look forward to your messages!

Sorry man, but you'll have to be alot more detailled and technical when describing your Problem.

What Resolution and Color depth is your Desktop right now ?
(I can only guess that you currently have it in 640x480 256 Colors and your TFT Monitor is stretching it to its native Resolution without Hardware interpolation, thus causing Letters to appear distorted)

After any blank Win9x Installation, you usually need :
a) Chipset Drivers
b) DirectX Redistributable
c) Video Drivers
d) Sound Drivers
e) misc Drivers for other Hardware

Why hasn't anyone told him to bump his resolution up and to put it in at least 16-bit color mode? What he's talking about sounds like what would happen if you put any TFT screen into like 640x480 mode.

If those options aren't available, your drivers arent correctly installed  ;)

bump!, I wonder if he got the problem sorted out already,

very much suspecting its just a resolution that makes his fonts look distorted.

sry guys. i was in a car accident and nothing has gone right since then. So back to the problem, i have installed my chipset drivers, sound drivers, direct x, and also v5 drivers. i played around with my settings and 800x 600 seems to make the words regular again but everything is bigger. it was initially set at 920x720 and that seemed to cause some distortion so i am sticking with 800x600. So far everything is well and i think i have leaped over this hurdle. Thanks to everyone that has contributed because i couldn't have done it without you guys. Once again thank you and my experience here was quite enjoyable. Until next time, I will definitely come back here for any future problems. So long!
