Title: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5) Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 20:53:02
I own a 3dfx Voodoo 4 4500 which has a PCB date of 3900... think this is very late for a 3dfx-own card, is it? Does somebody else owns a 4500 with this PCB Date or even more late?
( I know that Powercolor and other companies made Voodoo4's even more late but that doesn't matter here ;) ) Another question: Is it known that 3dfx placed also Daytonas (VSA101) on 4500 cards? or only on very few 5500...? Is it possible to detect a daytona by a late PCB date or where these VSA101 soldered also on "young" 5500 PCBs? |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 02.05.06 at 20:59:27
I don't think so since the Daytona chips have dfferent pinouts and other memory support.
the latest Voodoo4 4500 PCI and MAC4500 PCI + DVI I have seen were both Rev.A's From week 37 year 2000, the latest 4500 AGP I've ever seen was a Rev.A0 from week 33 year 2000. there are also Rev.A0's from week 35 year 2000 spotted, but if your 4500 is from week 39 year 2000 rather funny that it's not a prototype then. do remember that not all prototypes have NFR tags on them. |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 21:02:44
huh? think you messed up ;)
my card is 3900 and not 3999 ;D its definatly a production card... it has the 3dfx fan decal (not the aavid) and actually there are VSA101 on generic voodoo 5 5500 boards! someone at 3dcenter.de owns one... it can do 200Mhz+ 8) but nevermind, i will put it in my test rig now. i have read that the everest software can read out if its a VSA100 or VSA101... |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 21:06:13
OMG!
it says VSA101... ... just joking ;) Everest says VSA100 napalm... but can you trust in this software? |

Please re-read my post before you complain...

I did state Week 39 year 2000 didn't I ::) |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 21:10:25
yeah Obi but just imagine a V4 4500 prototype in 3900!!!! thats not possible! Cards were ready for the market in 1900-2500... why make a prototype of a one of a million V4 with this late date ;)
but lets wait what others say about date, and even more interesting for me the questions about VSA101... |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 02.05.06 at 21:14:31
it might be a woops, but a 4500 of week 39 year 2000 is very well possible since that the Voodoo4-2's relay from week 30 to week 46 of year 2000 and Voodoo5 6000's from week 07 to week 39 of year 2000, so it is verywell possible that your cards is from week 39 year 2000 as a final production model from the 39th week of 2000 as the latest production model after that week no more 4500's were built, thereby production stopped.
|
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 21:16:08
it IS actually possible since i own one hehe ;D
|
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 02.05.06 at 21:17:09
yeaps it ism unless it was a woops that 3dfx meant to put week 35 or 37 on it instead of week 39 hehe
what is it's Bios? |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 21:23:51
no i don't think so... i will pop off the heatsink and look what date the VSA100 (or hopefully VSA101 ;) ) has...
erm Bios 1.15 |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 02.05.06 at 21:27:55
hmm Bios 1.15 seems normal heh same bios as my Voodoo5 5000 AGP sweet :) that's cool.
I hope it's a VSA-101 too mate :) |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 23:14:24
VSA100 as expected...
but anyways, there is a woops i think at that "TAIWAN 1z01" nearly on all other voodoos is printed "TAIWAN 1001" |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by gdonovan on 02.05.06 at 23:18:11
Daytona has different pin out, the PCB is not interchangable.
|
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 02.05.06 at 23:22:39
so there are no generic 5500 out there with VSA101 onboard?
|
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by paulpsomiadis on 03.05.06 at 01:07:38
VSA-100 and a 1/2 then...LOL! ;D
But that sure is a whoops on the VSA chip... ::) ...maybe it just reflects a late rev. of VSA-100 ??? |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by gdonovan on 03.05.06 at 03:55:07 wrote on 02.05.06 at 23:22:39:
Nope. I talked to Hank about it, he indicated the VSA-100/101 are not pin interchangable, |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 03.05.06 at 08:57:03
someone at 3dcenter claims he has a VSA101 based V5 5500 because he can reach 200Mhz without mods and no special cooling. He says the coolers of the card stay cool, the backside too... when i touch the backside of one of my 5500 running at 192Mhz+ its very hot... but maybe the coolers of his card fits good and mine not... when i think of that crappy glue with sometimes "holes of air" in it...
and gary, what about that late PCB date of my 4500... is it common? do you have seen a 3900 PCB Date for a 4500 yet? |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by gdonovan on 03.05.06 at 12:05:13 wrote on 03.05.06 at 08:57:03:
I can claim I have a 400 mhz Rampage board too with 256MB DDR ram. If the chip is not pin compatible then Daytona on a VSA-1000 5500 PCB is impossible. I'd have to check the PCB of a few of my 4500's, I don't recall off hand. |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by Chosen_One on 03.05.06 at 13:33:05
i will talk to gohan (the guy with the 5500 w/ vsa-101)...maybe he can give us some pics...
of course i believe in hank's statement...but it would be cool to see a vsa-101 on a 5500... |
Title: Re: Late 4500? Post by TM30 on 03.05.06 at 16:43:43
i also sent him a PM already. i wanted to know the PCB Date of his card... still no answer yet.

Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by j-dogg on 03.05.06 at 22:37:30
there is no way a 5500 can support the vsa-101, wasn't the Daytona not SLI compatible?
|
Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by st4r4m4m4 on 05.05.06 at 05:19:27 wrote on 03.05.06 at 22:37:30:
Word here is about the ordinary 5500(vsa-100) PCB not having VSA-101 compatible pinouts. And afaik the VSA-101 has all of the VSA-100 features + DDR support (and possibly some other features I don't know of) so basically yes, it can work in SLI. (but on a proper VSA-101 PCB) ;) |
Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by TM30 on 05.05.06 at 07:58:50
and what about the 3900 dated PCB on my 4500... anyone else out there with this date... please have a look collectors ;D
|

Can't help much but here's what I have 2x3100 dates and a 3700, this one's chip has also 3700date and the thingy in the last row sais "taiwan 1501"

i cannot... it was only a fake just joking ;) will do some pics today or tomorrow, but don't expect anything special (except of the printed PCB Date ;) ) |

ah thank you, looks sweet hehe without it's cooler nice cam you got there too 8)
But how can i see if it's a VSA-101 of a VSA-100 TM30? |
Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by TM30 on 04.07.06 at 21:41:08
VSA101 has 355-028-00 written on it...
gary said, its imposible that 3dfx used VSA101 on generic Voodoo 4/5 PCBs... |
Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by gdonovan on 04.07.06 at 23:17:18
Different Pin-out on the GPU's.
If the pin out was the same, I assume 3dfx would have had the Daytonas up and running sooner. |

Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 06.07.06 at 20:57:03
Make Time then there is time! ;D
We would like to see it now hehe, since a Rev.A0 3900 for a regular 4500 AGP isn't a common thing. A. First you say you forgot to make a foto, which hasn't got to do with no time right? B. Then you say it isn't needed so that would mean it's not a 3900? for some people it would be hard to believe then right ? I think so, as do many others. C. And now you say Maybe! though no time for Voodoos so no pic, sorry but stop playing with us like this, it isn't polite. I hope we will see it one day like we still miss the Velocity 200 pics from you aswell :-/ |
Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by gamma742 on 06.07.06 at 21:34:57
Well maybe he miss-read the card ???
3700 does look a bit like 3900 :-/ At first glance ::) |
Title: Re: Late 4500? (+ discussion of a VSA101 on a V4/5 Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 06.07.06 at 21:52:57
yeaps, people happen to make mistakes from time to time true there :)
oh well 3700's of model 4500 AGP aren't that common either the most I've seen had dates 3500, 3300 and 3000 on them :) though a few did have 3700 yes hehe. |

Nope, I'm convinced. From the look at the location of the VGA port, it looks like a V4 to me :)

it's just your way of hard do'n sometimes and yes that can irritate some people, but nevermind it's okay now
Anyways we are all different no offense here man anyways it's a 3900 allrighty and the date is placed on a whole different spot as well. |

I'd like to see more rare cards, that's all ;) I think we all like to see the rare ones here if people don't mind sharing. |
