Title: Newer Motherboards and voodoo
Post by sb306 on 26.03.09 at 23:00:50
I havent recieved my motherboards yet. But, In the case that they dont work(or I just want new stuff) I was just wondering how a 5500 pci will work with the newer motherboards, like a athlon 64 or something like that. I wasnt sure how the fsb speeds would effect the pci slots etc etc. Thanks in advance.

the pci version should have no problems running in new motherboards.

I run a v5 PCI into an AM2+ mobo ( nforce 750a SLI ) together with a Phenom 9850 CPU.
The card is rock stable.
No problems so far.
;)

There is something that i do not understand:

I was surprized to get the same 3Dmark2001 score ( around 2500 points) on this quadcore CPU as on my Mobile XP ( single core ).
Afaik the 3DMark2001 is very sensible to any sistem change, and in my case there was a new platform, quad core CPU, 4gb ram.....i find this score very strange !!! >:(

The score is in my opinion very low.
:(
I even overclock the phenom from 2.5Ghz to 3.2Ghz, and get just an minimal score increase ( about 100 points.. )
Maybe on an intel platform you will get higher scores.
I used the SFFT 1.5 driver, and win XP.

I think there's something wrong with your software (drivers) or those PCI cards are very bus limited.

I used to get 2500+ points on my Pentium 4 2,26GHz with V5 5500 AGP. Overclocking it to around 2,5GHz got me up to 2900+ points. (SiS 645DX chipset btw)

I tryed also the Amigamerlin drivers, and the score is not changed.
Wehn overclocking the card to 190Mhz the score rise with around 100 points.
I will try to overclock the PCI bus  :)

I've upgraded my Voodoo 5 5500 system to Abit KT7a with a Tbred 2400+ running at 20x107Mhz (2160Mhz) with SDRAM memory runnung at 144Mhz and with highest quality setting I get 2393 marks 2001 SE.

Lowest quality setting yields up 2576 points. Gonna try out swiftshader and see how it goes with nature test :-)

I can hardly wait for my barton-M 1.35V to come... I would try this at 2.6Ghz to see how far it goes :-)

Here are some simple benchmarks I got while comparing a pci 5500 to an agp 5500. I was surprised, but it looks like the pci version is bus limited much earlier(cpu) than I thought it would be.
