Get the 3dfx logo tga image, then go to xnview - create a black and white map from it, then convert it back to RGBA image. Adjust contrast and gamma until you got a 0,0,0 - 255,255,255 pixel builded up image only.
Then load 3d studio max, make a cube with the maximal resolution (i think 100x100) then go to modifyers and select displacement. There give the b-and-w image, adjust until it will reach a noticable displacement. Then delete the far polygons, and press "optimise" at the modifyers (this will remove the high polygon number). Then clone the whole model, then mirror it. If you are finished, simply add the simple color bitmap as a texture.
And the 3d 3dfx logo modell is finished.
