Title: Voodoo V5500 - Fixed! Post by paulpsomiadis on 17.03.06 at 02:11:58
Yes indeedy! ;D
For those who have been following the forum for...well a LONG time now... :P You will know that a while back (like a month or so) I bought a slightly damaged V5500 from @Renner. :D It arrived last week and was fixed within about 20 min. ;) I just needed to de-solder two surface mount capacitors from an old [and VERY dead] V5500 and re-solder them onto the card @Renner sent me. 8) I finally got around to testing the card the other day (I've been busy with a few things lately...sorry folks!) and it works like a charm. ;D I have three pictures of the restoration if someone will volunteer to host them for me... ??? More comments after the pics... ;) |

Yeah Congrats on the repair ;D
It's no easy task to re-solder those tiny components back on ;) |

Sorry that the pic's are blurry folks! ::)
All I have on hand is a 1.3M pixel webcam... :P No film in a 'proper' camera at the moment! :( Anyhow, some comments: 1. Yup, it's me with the card...not much else to say really. :P 2. The troublesome capacitors - yeah, surface mount is always a pain the the A$$ to solder, but if it worked - who cares right? ;D 3. The restored card in all it's glory - I originally intended to add Zalman heatsinks and make it a 'silent' V5500...but in the end I just decided to restore it's original looks. 8) That's all folks! ;) |

Heh, I appreciate the compliment - but I'm just a hobbyist with a LOT of soldering experience... ::) ...not to mention the fact that I had the ideal replacement components from a dead V5500 too. ;) It's all luck...and 20 years of electronics expecience! LOL! ;D |
