How to know if a VSA100 chip is genuine?
05.12.13 at 00:03:10

Somebody here mentioned alibaba.com, so just out of curiosity I've decided to search for VSA100 chips. And I found many sellers with prices from $10 to $50 a piece. So the big question is, how to make sure one chip is genuine and not rebranded NVidia or some other company?

if they are really VSA100 chips...would that mean you could build your own Voodoo4 or 5?  Grin

I highly doubt that someone would try to fake those chips for a few dollars per chip.

Well I was just curious since it's a long time since 3Dfx was sold and so many quantities of VSA100 chips left behind is kind of suspicious...

There is now way to tell I guess, but almost certainly they are 220, as 320 I believe were used only in 6000. But I might be wrong, so somebody should clarify...

as far as I know, only later versions of the 6000, as in Rev 3900, maybe the 3700 as well, and very very maybe the 5500 agp 4x card as well.
other then some software that can read out 3dfx chip revisions, I don't know any other way to find out if your card has 220 or 320.
