If anyone knows how to fix/disable these issues please let me know.

1)  I would like to disable the pop ups from the tray that requests that I remove unused icons from my desktop and any and all other tray pop ups for that matter.

2) I got rid of that stupid dog that would show up when ever I ran "Search" but how can I just run a simple search/find without and the XP crap. I just want to click search/find and type in the file name I'm after.

I know Microsoft is trying to make things easier but now there are several steps to do a simple search.



Does anyone else have any complaints or fixes for these??

In principle you could go into the registry and change some keys, too, but TweakUI is very powerful and you can't destroy anything, which you can clearly when you mess around in the registry.

I prefer Win2K pro + SP4 & Win98SE + UO SP2.03  all the way, those OSés are the best for Voodoo use, XP is okay with newer hardware though Like radeon X850's, X1900's, or GeForce 6800's or 7900 GTXés hehe

But yeps the search sux in XP, and all the stuff that runs on the background all the unnessary stuff , my good lord , I have a bad feeling about Longhorn hehe XP Deluxe edition you could see it that way    YeaH BabY

yeah i`m planning to euthanise xp soon

after getting my old system running on 2k sp4 with a 2000+xp , i benched it against a 3.2xp both with a 9800pro and came to the obvious conclusion
that my xp system is chewing more resources
then necessary!

and considering i use to run 2k on a p2 300 / amd k6 400 / 1.6xp , the 3.2 xp should give 2k a good kick!

i think the worst part i faced is in networking

If you want to autologon then you can do it with TweakUI, too, as gamma742 already stated.

Those icons are stored in your browser's cache.  Whenever it gets wiped or overwritten, they get nuked until the next time you visit that site (you shouldn't have to re-bookmark it, just go there once).

If your browser is set to clear the cache every so often (I set mine to clear on every exit), or you have a script to clear it on shutdown, etc, the icons will keep getting nuked each time.



P.S.  Try Firefox. 

Hmmm...  that's kind of odd.

Here's a link that might be helpful for IE specifically.  There's a section near the bottom of the page labelled "Favicons are Missing" that has a couple of suggestions (an application that can fix it, and a manual alternative that's probably preferable).
