Hi guys. My Motherboard P6BX-A+ replacement came today. It's all hooked up, and my bios detects my hard drive and CD drive. I re-partioned it with Partition Magic 8 in Fat32.

But when I go to install Windows 95 or windows 98 via boot on cd & floppy, it's says something like can't run on lancast server or starpro, and says I have to create a MS-Boot Dos partition.

How do I create a MS-Boot Dos Partion?  ???
It's not available in Partition Magic 8.

I hope you guys can help. This is were I'm greatful for wise people like FalconFly and the rest of the gang. Please somebody help /post info that can solve this dielemma, thanx. I want to install Windows 98, I have the upgrade disc and I know the trick with windows 95 folder upon genuine disc/previous os search.

BTW, sorry if this is in the wrong board, it was the best place to put it from my pov.

Use a Win98 boot disc-

Run:

FDISK at the command prompt and look at the partion information, delete the non-dos partion if need be and then make a new one.

Maxtor, Western Digital and other hard drive companies also have software for setting up your drive with an easy interface.

My hard drive I'm using in the ECS P6BX-A+ is a 13.5gig IBM DJNA-371350 I'm using this IBM because in the Manual I found for it online said it was tested and worked in the P6BX-A+.

I couldn't use my Western Digital 60gig, the ECS 40gig+ bios update burned out my bios, so I had to get a new motherboard and a Compatable hard drive. I learned my lesson not to trust ECS.

Researching about specific pc info takes hours sometimes. I always try looking before asking.

BTW The Windows 98 Upgrade disc has FDISK utility on it? I'll check the dir. ttyl

DOS 6.22 and all Win9x boot discs have FDISK, it's how you manually set up a blank hard drive so required.

You probably won't have the "format" file on the 98 boot disk. You'll need to copy that to your 98 boot disk. After running fdisk and adding a new partition, it is very important that you re-boot before you format. Fdisk will tell you that when it completes but some have ignored that message and had problems later.

Also once formatted, reboot with your 98 boot disk and select boot with CD rom drivers. Then you can begin your install. If your disk is an "Upgrade" during the install process it will search your hard drive for an earlier version of windows. You'll need to pop the old 95 disk in and point "SetUp" to it. Then it will be happy and allow you to install Win98. If you have Win3.1 on Floppy you can point it there but it will ask for all 6 disks.

Nope, format is there even if the file isn't listed.

Thanx guys. I solved it. Here's what I did:

FDISK was on the CD but in one of the .cab files. FDisk was on the Floppy I made thou.

My hard drive was not set active, which was the reason why I got that error. FDisk set it active.

Also, my Bios settings, even thou it showed up in there, I did not have it in the correct setting, even thou I thought the setting was correct.

I am frustrated and losed data thou. FDisk said I had to format/restart but didn't work. So I hooked it up to my Pentium 4 3.0ghz. I used Partition Magic to format it and saw that it was active, but it turns out that was my XP RAID 0 hard drive. Loosing my data, especially stuff I wanted to back up like my Deus Ex cd images & TFC maps and stuff. I had to install XP and Norton again, haven't installed all my drivers that I need, a big pain in the butt >:(

The IBM drive wasn't connected even thou it looked and felt like the IDE cable was all the way in. It even powered up so I thout it was connected. Well, I reconnected it unpluging the CD IDE cables to make sure it was connected visiually. Formated the DJNA-371350 again in FAT32. I then put it back in my pentium 3 motherboard with my Voodoo 3.

In the P6BX-A+ under Auto HDD IDE, there are a few options, with N being to skip the detection:

LBA (choice 2)
Normal (Choice 1) on by default
Large (Choice 3)

I tried all, but I did LBA last. LBA was the one that worked. I am about to download the Voodoo 3 3000 drivers here to a floppy and take it to my pentium 3 mobo. Hopefully, it'll work and install Glide.

Man, it's been so long since I've used a old pc with ISA slots. I hooked up my ISA ethernet card, Realtech or somethin like that, and my audio ISA card needs some drives, Crystal Systems PnP or something like that.

If you guys know anything about those ISA Drivers, Realtech eithernet or Cyrstal Systems PnP sound card plz post.

I will do FalconFly and gdonovan a favor, maybe they'll host it.... I'll take some snap shots in 3DFX for some games, but mainly NFS 2 SE ;).

Hi guys. Seems like every time I solve a problem, a new one shows up.

I took out the Crystal Systems PnP Audio ISA card, something was wrong with it.

I put in a Creative Sound Blaster 16 ISA sound card. It's producing some sound, which is good, but Im having trouble with some programs.

Examples. NFS2SE just shows the 3DFX, then the menu with no sound, and then freezes up, plus when I load windows 98 the startup sound doesn't play. I downloaded the updates from Microsoft too, including the ones that you have to register to get.

It's a Creative Sound Blaster 16, PnP, ISA, model CT2960. I don't think it's the driver. I think it may have to do with the motherboard.

I'm using a P6BX-A+ Award Bios. I thought I skimmed over something that said how to fix it, changing the IRQ numbers.

BTW I'm using my Voodoo 3 3000 agp right now. The drivers are actually for the Voodoo 3 3000 with TV out, I don't have TV out.

I'd be greatful if anyone can tell me how to solve the Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 ISA CT2960 problem with the Award Bios. Thanx.

Sound card issues have alway been the worst for me in Win98. That is, when ever I tried to replace or upgrade to another card I had problems.

I can honestly say I have never had a problem, must be luck.

Creative Labs sound blaster 16, Live, and original Ensonic PCI with no problems.

Did you try to remove any drivers from the add/remove programs from control manager first.

I'm thinking that there weren't any so let's  move to step 2. Also in control manager in "system" delete all of the sound card references. then shutdown and remove the old sound card.

Then reboot without a sound card and check control pannel/system devices and make sure no sound cards are present.

Now try installing the new sound card (SB16).

If you still experince the problem, maybe it's not in the OS but with the game having something in the registry for the old sound card.

In this case, you might want to try to uninstall the game and re-install it.

It's worth a try. Like I said, I haven't had too much success so I'm hoping someone else may have some helpful tips.

I fixed it, yeay. It was a IRQ problem like I thought. Looks like Motherboards with ISA slots and use Award Bios have IRQ issues.

Since I have Windows 98 updated, I unplugged my RealTech 8019 ISA Eithernet Card, which is right below my Sound Blaster 16 ISA CT2960 card. I disabled Plug N Play OS Enabled, in the Bios under PnP/PCI config.

I then went back to windows and changed my IRQ numbers from basic 001, to basic 000, they're automatic.....
It either needed me to either free up more IRQ by disabling other devices or change the number. I did both.

I just tested out Need For Speed 2 SE in 3DFX. It looks like everything blends together great. Unlike regular Software mode where everything looks jagged. Even looks better than the Glide Wrappers, thou they are close.

I would run progs like Fraps to cap some videos, but I doubt my 450Mhz Katmai Pentium 3 MMX processor would handle that, especially since in my bios it's at 62.5% threshold. I do have a webcame so I can cap movies with sound that way, or just transfer screen shots from my P3 to my P4.

It just feels so nice now, feeling like a kind nice girl kissing me on the cheek. The specs:

I'd be happy to send people screen shots of 3dfx games that I have, etc, including the guests who sometimes browse here. I'm just happy I can now play 3DFX and have Vesa support and have no probs with old classics  ;D
